Ever since receiving the last iTunes update, with each iPod sync the library "loses" songs.  (The iTunes site says that this happens when songs are moved but in my case, the songs have not been moved and are exactly where they are supposed to be, within the iTunes Media folder.)   I spent a lot of time trying to find an answer on the iTunes site through the "community" (as reaching Support would have cost money, because I had no products currently under warranty). Because I could find no answers, and because so many songs are "missing" each time,  I even  "uninstalled" iTunes per iTunes Support procedure (which is quite an undertaking) and re-installed it, to no avail.  I thought of using System Restore to go back to the time when I had no such problems, but I could not pull up restore points to take me back that far.  Right now I have over 50 "missing" songs that I will have to put into the library from the library, which is time-consuming and seems, frankly, just stupid.  I plan to uninstall once more and install an older version unless someone can offer a better solution to my problem.I am running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit and iTunes 11.4.0.18 for Windows 64-bit.  My iPod is a Shuffle, 4th generation.  (iTunes markets itself as a media player and because they do, I feel it is a real disservice to limit software support to a few months after purchasing one of their proprietary products.) How did you try to add the songs to the iPod? If you added the songs to the library and then tried to sync the iPod, it would first erase all songs on your iPod and then copy the songs. Instead you should have an option to 'Manually manage music' when you plug in your iPod. After you do that, create a playlist with all the songs you want.Then under the iPod, there should be an option to 'Autofill from:'. Click on it and choose the newly created playlist. This should help you copy new songs to your iPod without losing the preexisting ones.

I am not losing songs from my iPod.  I am not really losing songs.  My library "thinks" I am losing songs.  It does this only after I have "synched" my iPod.  The songs are right where they should be, in the iTunes Media folder.  They have not been moved in any way, which is the answer Apple gives users for this problem.  I am forced to go into the Media folder and "re-install" the songs that are already there.  The numbers vary from four to twenty-odd.  It is time-consuming and annoying, as you can imagine.

I haven't come across the "missing songs" situation when syncing iPod with iTunes, but iTunes sometimes can't detect and connect my iPod. So I use TunesGo to transfer music from iTunes to iPod. The software can load songs from iTunes Library. After connecting iPod to the computer and run the software, it can help you directly move iTunes songs to iPod or perform the transfer backwards. Quite useful.

I have an 4th gen ipod nano. I backed it up and it created an iTunes folder before I created a new playlist and used autofill. it showed that all my songs were selected but after the sync I discovered my ipod was completely empty as was my library and my iTunes folder. my music is gone. This was the only place I had some of this music. The only other place is on a laptop that is fried. What can I do? I had over 2,000 songs?!? PLEASE HELP! Apple makes it so hard to copy music that it is so easy for this to happen, and this is the first time I've used iTunes in 2 years.

There is a better way to back up your iTunes music just like I do.

I use a converter to convert Apple Music to plain MP3 files and save them in my PC. By doing this, I can not only save those MP3 files on my PC forever, but also transfer and play them on any devices I want.
