My Epson 2400 scanner died and I'm trying to get the new version up and running - Epson Perfection V550 photo.
Instructions said to put in the disc and install software before connecting. Nothing happened. So I tried connecting the scanner, ran the new hardware wizard, and again no luck. Thought maybe I should have removed the 2400 software, so I did that from "add/remove programs", then tried again. Spent the day on the phone with Epson, no help so far. They told me to download the current driver software, which I did. I set it to run. It extracts the zipped file, asks me to agree to the license, then stalls at the beginning of the install timeline. This happens whether or not the scanner is connected.
There has obviously been some communication between the scanner and the computer - I can actually obtain a really awful image using "windows scanner and camera wizard"
If I turn on the computer while the scanner is connected, it recognizes it as new hardware.
There are no epson files remaining in "add/remove programs".
I'm running windows XP, 32, and connecting via USB.
Thanks for any suggestions!
