Would be very grateful for some help please.

My laptop seems to be getting slower and slower. Slow start up, hangs alot or crashes when opening web pages and freezes.

Could someone take a look at things to see if they can find any obvious issues please.

Thanks

Before we can help we need some information about your computer hardware and software, please download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us please, details here hopefully it will just be a case of tidying up the hard drive.

Hello reecesanford,

Nothing of note in Speccy other than your choice of AV software, Norton is a hog on system resources and is known to slow down ones computer, if it is the paid for version I would suggest that you temporarily uninstall it and try another free AV such as Avast or Microsoft Security Essentials to see if performance improves, you would need to write down your licence key number first and use the correct uninstall tool from here if nothing improves you can reinstall it if you wish but be sure to disable Windows own Firewall as this is also shown to be running in Speccy.

Once we have an update we will know what to suggest next.

You are welcome btw  :)

Can you download and run DPC Latency Checker to see if it finds anything.

http://www.thesycon....ncy_check.shtml

Run it for about 30 seconds to a minute and see if any bars go red, if they do then post back a picture of the graph and we can perform the next step.

All done and no red bars.

Have removed Norton which although i paid for im willing to see how it runs without it.

Although when it was running windows firewall was OFF.

Downloaded MSE and seeing how it goes. Will let you know.

Whole computer is slow. Certain applications will hang for awhile and i end up having to Ctrl,Alt,Delete to stop the process.

Hmm. Interesting.

normally the hardware isn't powerful enough for the OS and applications which is usually the case with these types of problems.

However looking at your hardware specs I don't think that's the case at all as you certainly have a good enough laptop.

Can you take a look at the resource monitor to see what's happening when things run slowly, or even crash.

No disrespect intended Jared44 but can we first see how things are with Norton removed, too many cooks etc  ;)

How are things without Norton reecesanford!

No problem, it's always best when people discuss solutions rather than trying to shun other people.

Norton, as Phill said, is a huge resource hog (and causes lots of problems on a lot of machines) so it wouldn't surprise me if it's the cause but we'll see soon.

The intention was not to shun Jared44  , a second pair of eyes (or more) is most helpful but inundating a member with information/suggestions can be intimidating and confusing to people as they may not know who or what they should be responding to

Just to clarify, have you uninstllaled Norton and are using an alternative AV software and things are ok!

Just a btw, Speccy shows that Windows Firewall was running (like Speedfan etc it does not always get things spot on).

Running: Windows Audio Endpoint Builder
Running: Windows Connect Now - Config Registrar
Running: Windows Event Log
Running: Windows Firewall
Running: Windows Font Cache Service
Running: Windows Image Acquisition (WIA)
Running: Windows Live ID Sign-in Assistant
Running: Windows Management Instrumentation
Running: Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service
Running: Windows Search
Running: Windows Update
