Hi,

 

I would like to run my Jenna Slide/Negative copier in Windows8.1

 

However the last drivers were made for XP.

 

I have heard that it is possible to run a virtual XP inside Windows8.1.

 

If this is correct how do I go about it?

 

I use the Jenna as I can get sharp poster size prints from a slide or negative,

Yeah Virtual Box is definitely the way that I would go.

 

If you need some assistance setting it up, please let me know.

I have loaded virtual box onto a Windows 8.1 system before.

Setup went pretty smooth, and it ran flawlessly.

 

If you are running Win 8.1 Pro then please wait before you

attempt to install virtual box. If this is the case then

post here and let us know.

 

The reason being, Win 8.1 Pro has virtualization software built right into the O.S.

It's called Hyper-V and it's by Microsoft. It's actually a really good piece of software.

 

So in this case you would have to shut down Hyper-V in order to use Virtual Box.

Or you could just use Hyper-V since it's already there.

 

One last thing, if you don't still have an XP disc lying around, I'm pretty

sure Microsoft is offering a download of the "Windows 7 run in XP mode"

for free. You could load that into your virtual environment and it

would work for what you need it for.

 

In order do this follow these steps:

1. Download WindowsXPMode_en-us.exe from Microsoft. You'll need to run the validation tool to prove your copy of Windows is valid.
2. Then use 7-Zip or another archive tool to open the EXE file as an archive.
3. Within that archive, find the "sources/xpm" file within it, and extract that folder to your hard drive.
4. Finally, in the extracted xpm file, you'll find a file called VirtualXPVHD. Rename it with a VHD extension.
5. Now, in VirtualBox, open the VirtualXPVHD virtual machine, and there you go.

You've got Windows XP Mode (running Windows XP Professional)

in Windows 8, no need for the XP license.

I read your answer and according to you in Windows 7 I should have a system already set up.

 

As I have my laptop with an up to date and legal Windows 7 software..

 

I went to Microsoft Home Page and downloaded and ran:

 

Microsoft® Hardware-Assisted Virtualization Detection Tool.

 

A popup window advises me that it is indeed installed.

 

As I type this I am downloading the program and I will run it tomorrow, my time.

Hi all,

 

Program installed and it then opened a window wiith:

 

Windows XP Mode setup completed successfully. Now we will take you to Window XP Mode in few seconds.

 

Ten minutes later I gave up waiting.

 

There is no icon on the Start-up.

 

Help.

I am truly sorry for the delay sir.

I am right in the middle of setting up 2 brand new systems in

my home and have experienced some serious issues with both.

That is what I get for ordering the entire systems piece-by-piece on the net.

I had already packed and gave my other equipment away, but I managed to scrape

together another XP box. I kinda love it.

 

Anyway, enough of that. So I'm not sure if you have solved

this issue yet, but let me look into it and in the mean time

post back and let me know whether you have solved this.

I may need some more help to kickstart this one.

 

As a thought I was wondering, if not too costly to buy a new motherboard into my old XP computer? All the programs I need are already on the Hard Drive.
