I am runnning a Toshiba Satellite T235, running Windows 7 Home Premium.  I have Windows Explorer 9. When I open my gmail I get a message that gmail needs to be upgraded to a newer Explorer.

 

When I am in IE9 and I search in google, when I click on one of the search results I get another screen that is light blue and blank and is continuously loading.

 

So I went to the Windows site and downloaded Internet Explorer 10 and Internet Explorer 11 for 64-bit Windows 7. Then when I tried to install it, I got a message saying that it can't be installed because Windows 7 SP 1 is not installed. When I go to windows update, it tells me I am all installed up to date. So how can I install SP1 if I am being told I don't need it?

 

I can access websites but if I click on a link wiothin the website, I get a light blue tab with a continuous non-ending loading spirial.

 

I don;t know if the two problems are connected but at least I need help getting Internet Explorer 11.

If it does not say Service pack 1, as shown by Ztruker's screen shot, have a look at this Microsoft page, I would ignore what it says about waiting for updates to install it, for some reason you have been missed, scroll down to the links for manually installing it.

I finally got the SP 1 to install and then there were 100 updates.

 

Java was then able to be downloaded and installed.

Just remember that when something seems easy and obvious to you, us lay people need full explanations to follow your instructions.

 

I read them several times and they finally sunk in. I consider myself fairly savvy with computers and I need help with some of the instructions on here.

 

My problem is solved and the computer is working fine. Thanks so much for your time.

Hi Greg, thanks for the update, and glad all is OK again.

 

I work several computer help forums, and wherever possible I do try to explain things as fully as possible. However, when things are complex I know it can be difficult to follow long winded instructions and remember them. After all I was like you once and didn't know anything.

 

So sometimes it is best to print the instructions so you can read off each one as you carry it out.

 

Anyway, you got there and all is now working. A moderator will possibly add a bit more and mark this as solved.
