Just make sure you have a good image backup of the drive then recovery is 20-30 minutes away.

 

I am a firm believer of backing stuff up... But, no point in backing Win 10 up yet. Plus, it got wiped.

Oh, Windows 8.1? I have in Install disc, and a fall back Win 7 disc that has like 500 uses from the local University. I don't keep anything secret or or importance on my computer usually.

While the Demo lasted before crashing, I found it to be pretty much a mix of Windows 7 and Windows 8. 

It's essentially Windows 8.1 with the Start Menu returning :-)

I installed Win 10 and all went well for a month or so.  Then something happened and my computer would not start 10 or anything.  It just looped flash screen then blue screen and on and ...

So I formatted my hard drive that was a bit of work. Had to boot off a USB .  I then found a IOS from Dell for a original version of  7 downloaded it and put it on a bookable USB and got my machine back.  Had everything backed up but what a mess.

I think beta testing is not for me.

I would like to experiemnt with a Beta, but like you, I consider it too high risk. I don't have a modern enough computer, anyway. (AMD XP2600 running XP/SP3 with 768M of RAM) I use WIN7 at work on a handful of machines, but the majority are XP, and are still holding their own. (Most, in fact, do not even have Internet access, they are on private LAN only.) If there is going to be an upgrade, it's not going to happen until after WIN10 has Service pack 1 available.

Why do you believe there will available a Service Pack for Windows 10?

The new Update mechanism doesn't need in the future service packs (since Windows 8). The only option to you is to check if your hardware works with the new version. You should check the vendors pages from your hardware is, whether are new drivers for windows 10 are available.

No Service Pack?! OK, then the next REVSION... like V10.1 the way they made 8.1

As for Windows 10's release... MS just pushed a new icon onto the taskbar that you can't (easily) remove! It was bundled with a recent set of Windows Updates. It appeared on a MISSION CRITICAL machine at work, and let's just say, I was none too pleased!

Google is our friend... I found instructions on how to remove it (definitely *NOT* for non-Geeks!) and it's gone for good.
