how can i synchronise data from a pc to a portable drive

I had a WD passport drive that used to permit creation of multiple profiles and also synchronise data from a PC and copy to another device.

Newer drives - both WD and Toshiba seemingly do not allow this.

What options do I have

Back everything up, stick inside a zipped folder and name it the profile you want?
