HP Pavillion  g series 64bit Win 7 home premium.  I have no money to have this machine fixed.  I am disabled on social security.  A telephone tech tells me I need a MS certified level 3 tech to fix issues, but who has $200.00, not me.  I purchased this computer at a pawn shop.  Is there anything I can do?

:welcome:

Hi devasativa,

Which Windows services are turned off ? How and when did this happen, any idea ?

Not enough posted to go by. Possible Windows 7 Repair from disk or a system recovery suggested.

There are some malware infections that disable all services they can. PITA to fix but it can be done.

Go to the Virus, Spyware, Malware Removal forum, read the first post and follow instructions.

Come back here once you get a clean bill of health if you still have problems.

Is it ok for me to copy and paste from task manager services to illustrate what is going on?  Also, I attempted to check disc on C drive, and rather than processing any file I got a brief dialog telling me C drive was NTSF filing system and drive is clean!...What the...????  I know that is not right!  I checked the box to automatically repair errors and try to restore damaged sectors.

I was told that important services were turned off and I am unable to change them using WMI shortly after purchase by a remote tech from Boost Performance tool...which I paid for along with malware bytes..paid premium  (which no longer works, even on chameleon.).  That gentleman told me I will need to pay a level 3 MS cert. tech..(of my choosing, so I don't think I bought "ransom ware", or "scareware"..I was concerned that fan runs all the time, but vents appear clean.....There is no way I can afford this on my disability, so I need to either carefully follow instructions, or go without a computer...I know I have big problems..many, but I want to start here.

For starters, when windows starts, I am told that the Group Policy Service failed to start and so "standard users" unable to log on..so I know ,as an admin..I am wide open from the get go...

I apologize for copy and paste, bt "upload failed"..(imagine that!), when I attempted to attach a log file..no columns as you can see, but, everything after "workstation", is stopped, and the options for turning on services or deleting, disabling, garbage like,,,gorilla.svc...malware ..adware highjacker on my ie.  can not be changed or disabled.. As I was making this report, I was able to start a couple of things like RPC...sounds crazy, but In swear the behavior of some of these malicious activities, seems to change even if temporarily, upon close examination...,ba**ards!..please, do you think there is hope?

devasativa,

As said by Ztruker maybe you should post a topic in the Malware section of this forum. To rule out first any source of infection.

Now if you still want to, you can try this on this post:

Running a chkdsk should be done through the command prompt as administrator. In start menu right click the command prompt and " Run as Administrator "  type  exactly this :   chkdsk c: /f /r

This will take time, can then try a DISM at same Run as Administrator command prompt type  this exactly or copy and paste it from here to get it exact      dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

Then run a SFC System File Checker at same elevated command prompt    sfc /scannow

Your task manager services does not show us what is off and what is on, be best if you screen captured your services use Windows Paint program

At Start menu select RUN type  Services.msc  maximize the window then on the keyboard press Control and Print Screen, go to Windows Paint program open it and left click the center of the window, at the menu select PASTE

Again at the menu select File and " Save as "  a JPEG . Post it here  for us to get a better look.

Although you may be first better off making sure there is no Virus. If not maybe some of above will help you or last resort you may need to recover from a recovery partition or reinstall from a Windows 7 disc.
