Can I also check what it meant when I got the message  "navigation to webpage cancelled" is this a virus or something else?  As I had this a while back too. thanks Joe.  PS that message seems to have stopped though.

Hello,

There's a few different reasons for it, I actually could not pin- point yours exactly and simply went through the basic routine of cleaning the machine up, and problems went away as is such the case 85 percent of the time with machines.

Lets run a scan called ESET, This is the last scan and it may take a while. ESET may also find files that are already quarantined.

ESET Online Scanner

Note: You can use either Internet Explorer or Mozilla FireFox for this scan. You will however need to disable your current installed Anti-Virus, how to do so can be read here.
  • Please go >>HERE<< then click on: ESET1st.jpg

Note: If using Mozilla Firefox you will need to download esetsmartinstaller_enu.exe when prompted then double click on the ESETexe.jpg icon to install.

All of the below instructions are compatible with either Internet Explorer or Mozilla FireFox.
  • Select the option YES, I accept the Terms of Use then click on: ESETsave.jpg
  • When prompted allow the Add-On/Active X to install.
  • Make sure that the option Remove found threats is NOT checked, and the option Scan archives is checked.
  • Now click on Advanced Settings and select the following:
    • Scan for potentially unwanted applications
    • Scan for potentially unsafe applications
    • Enable Anti-Stealth Technology
  • Now click on: EOLS3.gif
  • The virus signature database... will begin to download. Be patient this make take some time depending on the speed of your Internet Connection.
  • When completed the Online Scan will begin automatically.
  • Do not touch either the Mouse or keyboard during the scan otherwise it may stall.
  • When completed make sure you first copy the logfile located at C:\Program Files\ESET\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt
  • Copy and paste that log as a reply to this topic.
  • Now click on: EOLS4.gif
(Selecting Uninstall application on close if you so wish)
Post the eset scan results log in your next reply to me.

Thanks
Joe :)

Hi Joe, I've just had another problem.  My avg is running very strangely taking ages to complete - hanging in fact.

Then just now I was trying to get on the web and I got the navigation cancelled again!

I kept retrying in firefox and it kept crashing and finally asked me if i wanted to reset it to standard default settings.  I've done that and at least I was able to get online to write this.

IE also said nav cancelled and I couldn't get on.

Ok I'll run the two scans and report back asap.

thanks

OK,

Run the scans.

Maybe it's AVG causing the issues. We can look into that and perhaps uninstall it and put a temp Anti Virus on the machine and see if that fixes anything.

I've just checked chrome and it work fine  - for now.  So I'm wondering if it's something else?

Off to bed now it's nearly 11pm.

I'll do the scans over the weekend, not sure if you will be around until Monday - that is ok with me.

Have a good one!

thanks Joe.

Hi Joe,

I ran the Junkware removal I've posted the log below.

Then I was checking my avg last security check and it removed 2 malicious tracking cookies/malware.

Actually it seems to have removed 2 of the same:

Tracking Cookie Revsci

this is malicious from the report I read -  I am still having problems getting onto the internet (firefox just keeps reporting continual crashes and IE) had t use chrome which I rarely use, despite avg removing these threats. So Im wondering if this malware has done some damage that needs removing etc?  My computer has been running very slow, and I'm concerned I've got someone hacking into my computer, stealing data, passwords and changing things.  Remember I mentioned that when in Firefox the download button was being used or showing in use when I wasn't downloading anything. Could this be being sent to a hacker?

Here is the junkware report:

Hi Joe, I've come back here to tell you what happened running the ESET scan.  Please can you let me know my next steps.  I'm concerned about all the threats picked up esp the trojan. thanks Joe.

1. I tried running it and it froze about 1hr 30 mins in.

2. I ran it again this time for 6hrs 30 mins it got to 91% but it was taking over 1hr for each 1% increase so I thought something was wrong.  I was also concerned after a long time without my internet security of further problems happening.

I went to log in prog files and I posted what was there not sure if that helps though as it wasn't finished the scan.

From the scan it picked up 31 threats at 91% I've listed some of what I could see here as examples, also one TROJAN too (see point 5).

1. A variant of win32/toolbar.conduitB potentially unwanted application - lots of these

2. A variant of win32/toolbarConduitP.potentially unwanted application

3. win32/graboid

4. win32/bundledtoolbar.googleD.potentially unsafe application - lots of these

5. JS/Agent.NNSTrojan

I need a full scan run so I can see the file paths and locations of the suspected threats. See how ESET does it below:

sh=B7EE482B8B274F502D6FE7820444674475FF99A2 ft=1 fh=8a8ff7b699777709 vn="a variant of Win32/Toolbar.Conduit.B potentially unwanted application" ac=I fn="C:\Desktop\FreeVideoToJPGConverter.exe"

See how ESET shows me the file path and location of the suspected threat in bold above. That's what I need to take any action.

Run the scan before you go to bed and let run..

Thanks
Joe :)

Hi Joe I'll try running tonight for me that is Sunday night and hopefully get somewhere (report back monday).

Is it normal to take so long?

Last night as I was finishing up my internet connection failed while looking at some you tube videos and I have noticed over the last few days that my computer sounds much louder. Something def is wrong!

Is there an alternative if ESET won't complete as before?

thanks
