Hi, sorry if this is a dull question; I'm a computer repair novice ;)

My darling son blew up (literally) my hard drive last christmas, have been to skint to replace it till this week. I bought a new one online and put it in and attempted to use my HP recovery disks.

I assumed that as it was an identical hard drive the disks should work; however, after I put in the 3rd disk the process gets to 56% and then stops, giving me a message 'Error code 0xe0ef00e please contact HP customer support'.

As my desktop is out of warranty they want to charge me £40 just to speak to someone, I think I might just need new recovery disks.

So, questions; do i need to buy new recovery disks or is there some way of making my lovely new hard drive work without them?

Thanks in advance for any help and advice:)

The Irony... Lol.

Joking aside, Laptop or Desktop? Make and Model (HP Pavillion dv7 for example) HDD's should be plug and Play. I would presume your son blew the HDD up with the Operating System on it?

Double posted 2 questions... (Edit)

Hello wickedpixie,

In addition to what Alan has asked, if your computer had Vista, Windows 7, 8 or 8.1 installed let us know if you have the product code details (the 25 digit COA - code of authenticity) if you do you can download an ISO for free and do a fresh install of Windows, this will only cost you your time and possibly a DVD disk if you don't have a 4GB or larger USB thumbdrive, a fresh install will not land you with all of the usual HP bloatware that their disks would either  ;)
