I have my screen saver wait time set for five minutes. For those afk moments. I have On resume, disply logon screen. checked. When I click Preview it flashes on for a second or two and goes off. Power settings are set to Balanced. Turn off display in ten minutes. Put the computer to sleep: 1 hour.

The screen saver does not come on any more. I tried a reboot. Is there something I could/should look for in Windows Task Manager Processes?

My first thought is your mouse is causing the problem. Do you have another you could try?

If it's wireless, do you have a wired mouse you can try?

No wireless-just wired ones.  I gave up wireless a while ago-after I knocked it off the desk by accident and it broke! I have the USB optical kind. I did try another one. I'm still kind of new to Win 7. I wasn't aware it creates it's own restore points. It's last restore point was the 23rd. It reads removed Visual Studio 2012 x86. I tried to restore it. It said it couldn't. Is that something I can find and install on my own?

NM-the culprit was a VERY cheap USB optical mouse-maybe I SHOULD get a wireless mouse!

Ztruker-thanks for taking the time to post!

Glad you found the problem.

I personally don't like wireless mouse or keyboard. Always had some kind of problems with them.

I much prefer a good USB mouse and keyboard.

Wireless mouse is handy for a laptop though.

I was being sarcastic about getting a wireless mouse! I like the look/feel of the whole desktop thing to ever change. But yes wireless can be handy.  Funny how something so small can cause odd happenings.

Thanks for putting this kind of question actually I was facing same problem till last few day. Then I unplugged my mouse or keyboard and changed the mouse battery after that window 7 screensaver is working properly now.
