Wow, I had forgotten how much stuff Startuplist collects.
 
I see quite a few Sony and Intel data collectors running and several toolbars that are not needed. Lets try one more time, see if the data presented is any easier to absorb:

Download and install CCleaner from the following link:
CCleaner - Standard

During installation, uncheck the option to install the Yahoo toolbar.

Click on Tools (ICON) and Select the following BUTTONS to create two (2) text files:

* Uninstall > Save to text file (install) – bottom right corner of app window
* Startup > Save to text file (startup)

Locate and open each saved file in the ‘Documents’ FOLDER:

* Copy and paste the contents of each file into your next post (2 files).

Also, try this:  How does it behave if you boot to Safe Mode with Networking? If better then something is starting at boot that is causing the problem.

Use msconfig to determine what is causing the problem

These are good tutorials on using msconfig in XP, Vista or Windows 7:

Click on Start then Run, type msconfig and press Enter.
Click on the Startup tab (for Windows 8, the Startup tab has a link to open Task Manager/Startup tab. Use that.), record what is currently starting then click the Disable All button.
Reboot and see if it runs better.
If yes then use msconfig to enable several items at a time till you find the culprit.

If no, start msconfig and click on the Services tab.
Check the Hide All Microsoft Services box, record what is currently starting then click the Disable All button.
Again, do a regular boot, see if it runs normal.
If yes then use msconfig to enable services till you find the culprit.

Once you've found the culprit, uninstall it or find out how to eliminate it from your system. Simply disabling it in msconfig is a temporary fix at best.
Enable everything else you disabled.

 

Make sure you enable your Anti-virus.

I'd be happy to get rid of unnecessary and burdensome stuff like extra toolbars. I've already deleted a couple of easy ones, but I am definitely open to your suggestions. Here are the results from CCleaner, I will try Safe Mode and msconfig tomorrow and let you know how my machine responds. Thank you for these steps.

I'd still suggest you go through the steps I listed in my previous post using msconfig. You may find more you can disable that will inmprove performance and not cause you any problems.

Ztruker, I was able to disable several Startup items by following your instructions and the guidelines in PacMan's msconfig listing.  My machine seems to be pretty stable and things are running smoothly.  I didn't find anything particularly strange, but I did find several unnecessary items.  I think if there was anything "strange," we wiped it out during some of the earlier housecleaning that stopped Internet Explorer from locking up all the time and allowed videos to run again.  I can't say that everything is perfect again, but my computer is several years old, so I don't expect lightning speed anymore.  Thank you for getting it back to being functional.  I really appreciate your help.  We went through a lot of steps, most of which I didn't even know about.  You are a good person and a deserving geek.  Thank you.
