Got a new error:     Registry editing can't give "new key 1" a new name. Error with changing name of key

2. Click on regedit that shows up in the search results.

 

3. If you receive a User Account Control message asking you  to allow the program to make changes to the computer, please click Yes.

4. Next, ensure you are all the way at the top of the screen. Click on the arrow next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE so it's expanded.

 

5. Then go ahead and expand SYSTEM. Then expand CurrentControlSet and then services.

 

6. Now right-click on the services folder and select permissions.

 

 

7. Click the Advanced button.

 

8. Click the Owner tab. In the Change owner to: section click on the Administrators group. Check the box Replace owner on subcontainers and objects and click Apply.

 

9. Click OK on the resulting message box even if it says that it could not set owner on some keys.

 

10. Click the Permission tab. Click on the Administrators group. Uncheck "Include inheritable permissions from this object's parent." You will get the following message. Click Add.

 

11. Ensure the Administrators group is still selected and then click the Edit button.

12. Ensure that everything is checked in the Allow column and click OK.

 

13. Click "Replace all child objects permissions with inheritable permissions from this object" and click on Apply.

 

 

14. Answer Yes on the Confirmation message that comes up.

 

15. Click OK on the next message that comes up even if it says it could not set security on some keys.

16. Click OK to get out of the "Advanced Security Settings for services" form.

17. Click OK to get out of the "Permissions for services" form.

18. Right-click on the services key again and select New and Key.

 

19. A new key will be added to the bottom of the services list ready to be named (Yours may be named New Key #2 which is fine). Please type BFE and hit enter.

9 & 15 ( coudl not set security)  and trying to name the key, same as last time.

Step#1 - Check Specific Registry Permissions

1. Please download GetPermissions.bat and save it to your desktop.

2. Please also download SetACL.exe and save it to your desktop.

3. Right-click on the GetPermissions.bat file and select Run as administrator. Answer Yes to Allow if prompted.

4. A file named Permissions.txt will be created on your desktop. Please copy/paste the contents of this file in your next reply.

2. Hit the power button on your computer and then immediately tap the F8 key in 1 second intervals.
3. The Advanced Boot Options menu will appear as shown below. Please use your arrow keys to select Safe Mode and hit enter on the keyboard.
 

 
4. If you are asked to log on, please log on with your account so that you are at the desktop.

 
Step#3 - Run the tools
1. Click the Start Orb in the lower left corner of the screen and type cmd in the search box.
2. Right-click on the cmd that comes up under Programs in the search results and select Run as administrator.
 

 
3. You will now be at a command-prompt window similar to the following.

 
4. Please copy the following command and paste it directly into the command-prompt window and then hit enter on your keyboard.
    c:\users\Adrian\desktop\psexec.exe -s -i -d cmd.exe
 
5. Another command-prompt window will open. so now you have two of them. Please only use this new window from now on.
 
6. Now, please copy the following command and paste it directly into the new command-prompt window and hit enter on your keyboard.
    c:\users\Adrian\desktop\setpermissions.bat
 
7. Copy the following command and paste it directly into the new command-prompt window and hit enter on your keyboard.
    reg import c:\users\Adrian\desktop\BFE.reg
  
    Note: Once you hit enter you will either get a success message in the command-prompt window as shown below or an error will occur. Let me know which.

 
 
 Step#4- Reboot and submit the log
1. Reboot your machine and log in normally this time.
2. There will be a file on your desktop named SetPermissions.txt. Please copy/paste the contents of this log file in your next post.

Hey, sorry I'm slow, but every time I try to start/shut down the computer it starts installing updates/configuring windows that lasts for hours. It keeps doing it, so seems like the updates aren't really happening. Will boot into safe mode as soon as I have time, right now I've only got like 30 min - an hour of spare time at once, but I think I'm less busy tomorrow!

All right, so I'm trying to boot into safemode by pressing F8, but instead of the "advanced boot options" I get "Please select boot device:" with alternatives like floppy drives/cd/usb etc.?

Try this. Power off your machine.

 

Hit the power button, wait 5 seconds and then start tapping the F8 key on the keyboard a second apart until you see the Advanced  Boot Options menu.

Thanks, that worked the second time.

 

On step #3  number 4, it asked me to agree to terms of service, clicked accept and then I get an error saying "execute processes remotely has stopped working" and that the program will be closed. no second command-prompt window opened. What do I do now?
