I get a "CLOSE" box on my screen, sometimes when I am using the computer, but most of the time when it is idle. I click on the Close box and get to my desktop, but usually there isn't enough memory to perform most functions, especially get on the internet. I use Norton Internet Security 2004 and have downloaded SpyBot Search and Destroy. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

kool808, tried all your suggestions and didn't find any ad-ware, spyware, etc. and I still get the "CLOSE" message. I'm now wondering if perhaps Windows ME is telling me it is going to crash? Thank you for your suggestions, just wish something worked. mte

Try fixing your registry for errors, visit tune-up then download and scan for problems, although it is just a 30-day trial. DOWNLOAD HERE.

Try also windows update and drivers update.
