I have a Windows XP computer that recently got the Department of Justice virus/ransomware. I have tried every safe mode available to try to do a system restore but every safe mode ends with a blue screen.....which I believe might be fake as the computer starts normally and then seconds later the virus page pops up.
I tried Norton's reboot recovery tool on a flash drive and while it appears the files are loading, and it even ran a check disc scan once, the virus page still pops up.
Norton wanted me to subscribe for another year before they would attempt a remote connect and fix but I maintain if I already have the service with 130 days left on the subscription, I shouldn't have to buy more of a product that didn't stop the problem to begin with.
I am currently on a Windows 7 laptop so I do still have access to the internet but as far as my infected desktop is concerned, I can't seem to access anything as the virus screen blocks the view of the desktop.
Are there any solutions for this problem? Need more info? I'll be happy to provide it.
Nothing like being caught in the middle of two extortionists- Norton and the scammers- both asking for money I don't have. :^(
