Good, acknowledged.

Just a nag.

Take anti static measures.

Check carefully for bent pins and/or foreign objects in the CPU socket before installing the processor.

Remove all traces of the old TIM from the heatsink base.

Apply new TIM to the top of the CPU as per the instructions.

Connect the CPU heatsink fan plug to the CPU 1 header on the MB.

The CPU is now with the retailer and they have tested it and found a fault, just waiting for a replacement now. Will be picking it up tomorrow hopefully.

While not ideal at least it has now been confirmed that the CPU is bad, hopefully you will have no problems with fitting the replacement, any questions let us know, one of us will be around at some point.

Hi,

just to add, one good solvent to use for removing the old TIM, (Thermally conductive paste) is what is sometimes called rubbing alcohol, proper name is isopropyl alcohol, you can usually obtain it from most pharmacists, if not then methylated spirits will work too. It will help in cleaning the base of the heat sink, also don't use anything sharp to scrape it, a scratch in the surface can reduce the efficiency of the heat sink.

Nev.

Turns out it wasn't the CPU but after replacing the motherboard it's working now. Will keep an eye on anything happening in the near future. Thanks for all the help.
