Hi there,

I got a trojan that keeps trying to load RDRIV.SYS on my PC. I'm using Symantec Anti Virus ver 9.0 and it reports the attack being prevented and the file sent to quarentine every 30 seconds or so. My quarentine log is huge... ;)

I'm running out of options since the Anti-Virus is not removing the source of the problem and I've tried everything to remove the entries from registry, but they keep comming back... :tazz:

He's my highjackthis log. Thanks for your help!

  • Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop double-click it.
  • The program will prompt you to update click the OK button
  • The program will now go to the main screen
You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
  • On the left hand side of the main screen click update
  • Click on Start
The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
Once the updates are installed do the following:
  • Click on scanner
  • Make sure the following boxes are checked before scanning:
    • Binder
    • Crypter
    • Archives
  • Click on Start Scan
  • Let the program scan the machine

Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
  • Click Save report

Hi Old_man,

I didnt find any evidence of rdriv.sys on your PC. If you have the problem popping up, please let me know.

We did find a lot of hidden bugs on your PC through the Ewido scan.

Lets do a couple of online scans to make sure everything is fine. Please visit these two sites and do the respective scans, one after the other -

Trendmicro
Panda

Please post the logs from the two scans here.

Symantec was reporting rdrv.sys trying to install, not installed. The problem was I could not identify the program that was doing it. After I ran Ewido, Symantec ceased to report the rdrv.sys attempts, so I'm assuming it was one of the removed threats.

As for the 2 reports you've asked, Trendmicro errors out as Java Applet failed and Panda says it doesn't support my browser.

I use Firefox...

Hi Old_man,

Please download CleanUp and save it to your desktop.

Run Hijack This and check the item next to the following item -

O20 - AppInit_DLLs: c:\windows\system32\hk.dll

Close all windows other than Hijack This and click on Fix checked.

Reboot the PC in Safe Mode (repeatedly tap the F8 key when the PC is starting up).

Run CleanUp. Delete all temp file including temporary internet files.

Reboot the PC in Normal Mode.

Now please run the two online scans. These scans will usable only if you access them through Internet Explorer and not through Firefox.

Post the results of the scan here along with a fresh Hijack This log.
