I just wanted to ask for your opinions and I have a few questions.

 

Parts:

 

Processor/CPU- Intel core I7 4790K

CPU cooler- Coolermaster Hyper 212 Evo

Motherboard- Asrock Fatality Z97 Professional motherboard

Memory/RAM- G.skill RipjawsX 1866 mhz 16bg (2x8)

Graphics card/GPU- Gigabyte gtx 970 Gaming G1

Hard Drive- Western digital 2000GB Black edition 7200rpm

Operating software- Windows 8 64 bit

Case- Corsair Graphite series 760T OR the 780T. I am starting to lean over towards the 780T

Power supply/ PSU- Corsair modular 750 watt 80 plus gold

Case Fans- Corsair cooling/case fans 140mm x2

Optical drive- LG drive writer 24x optic drive SATA

 

Questions:

 

Just wanted to make sure but is this build SLI capable? I read online that a 750 watt should do it for 2 gigabyte 970s. Is the CPU cooler good enough for casual over clocking?

Do you guys recommend Push and pull airflow or not? If so how can I achieve this?

Well i currently live in the middle east but i will most likely get the parts from Europe as i am going on holiday to visit family for Christmas etc.

 

The rig is meant for gaming and possible video rendering later on (which is why I chose an I7 instead of an I5)

 

I will currently be using a single monitor but will buy another one in the near future. Both 1080p or maybe even 1440p (undecided)

i take it your talking about on the cpu heatsink? all push/pull is, is connecting 2 fans, 1 either side of the cooler, both blowing the same direction. the first is pushing air flow through the cooler and the 2nd is pulling the air through the cooler.

 

yes push/pull is more efficient at cooling, so can keep your cpu a couple of degrees cooler at high loads, but in all honesty for most people it won't make any difference. personally i always use push/pull on my radiators (self build watercooling.) because i can then run the fans at a slower speed, so less noise, without any loss in cooling performance in my every day use.

yes it is, sli depends on the pc's motherboard, and that one is fine.

750 watts gold is the minimum psu i'd recommend but in all honesty i'd go higher at least a good 850 watt gold psu especially if your planning on running overclocked too.

yes it is. biggest mistake people make when buying an after market heatsink is buying one that will not fit in the case they use when they try and put the side back on, so always check both the case and heatsink space requirements. your choices are fine in this regard tho.

 

about the only thing i'd recommend is adding a ssd drive to use for your os and programs, keeping the 2TB hard drive for your data.

The i7 is the right choice if you are planning video/photo/ editing.

 

CPU cooler.   FYI.   Where a CPU is supplied with a stock cooler, this from both Intel and AMD, and you choose to use a different one, you will void the 3 year warranty, should damage occur you will not have a legit claim.   The stock cooler will keep the CPU within it's thermal limits, providing you are not overclocking.   I always advice using the stock cooler first and if it does not perform as you require, then change it.

 

RAM,   Stick with the Default 1600MHz, going higher gets minimal performance gains and causes more heat.  Also consider using low profile sticks, should you decide on a aftermarket cooler later, memory with high heat spreaders will severely limit you choice and orientation  of the fan/s.   I use the G.Skill Aires series.

 

HDD.   Using a large single drive for the OS and Data can cause you problems later if the drive gets corrupted or fails or you need to reinstall the OS.  Consider using a SSD for the OS and programs, a mechanical drive for Data storage and ideally an external encloser for backups.

 

The build would be SLI capable.   Before going that route, please do more research, single vs duel GPU, especially when using a single high end card.   I think the disadvantages rule it out for me.

That would depend on the total power requirement of the whole system.   More important is the available Amps on the 12 volt rails/s and the PCI.E plugs required by the GPU/s.

 

Push vs Pull, With regards to case cooling seems to be just a personnel choice, there appears little difference in performance.   I concentrate on a good  uninterrupted air flow.   It is harder to maintain a constant positive pressure in a case, as soon as heat rises and more exhaust is used, the intake fans must synchronize to keep the balance.

I will use the stock CPU cooler for a while but I do think that i am going to be over clocking at some point in time.

 

I will have a look at the RAM but prefer it to be red as to match my build.

 

I was indeed planning to buy an SSD to install Windows 8 and programs. I was think of a Samsung 120GB EVO.

 

The only time when I am planning to go SLI is probably not going to be within 3-5 years  at least. I am considering SLI only when my single card becomes "outdated". Although the fact that i can then upgrade to a newer card is possibly preferred as some games have a lot of problems running SLI/Crossfire.

 

Now for the PSU i have chosen to upgrade it to a Corsair RM-850 80 plus gold power supply.

With the airflow I will just "experiment" a little bit and see what I like better and if it really matters.

I would urge you to get a 250GB SSD.   I have both the Samsung Evo and MX 100 and I can't tell the difference in ever day use.   I prefer the Evo, only because of the Magician software.

PSU,  Click the Estimated Wattage: 356W on the CPP page for a breakdown, even allowing for 2 monitors and capacitor ageing, that system would run on a good 550W PSU. a 750 would run SLI.   consider this one, > http://www.amazon.co...C/?tag=pcp0f-21 with Link Digital. 

Your thoughts and final conclusion on dual cards, is spot on, fully agree, buy the latest.
