This question has been asked many times and I have yet to find an answer that actually works.  I am running Windows 7 Professional with Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010.  It has been working perfectly until now.  When I start Word I get the error "Microsoft Access 2010 requires Visual Basic for Applications.  If you continue, Visual Basic will be installed."  This then starts a series of uneventful installations one after the other until finally stopped and then an error report with instructions opens and talks about macro security settings.  This only happens when opening Word - not any other Microsoft Office programs.  By the way, changing those security settings did not work.

I have tried all "fixes" offered and nothing has worked including registry changes and even Microsoft's Fix-it.  What am I missing?

Close Word.  Do a search of all files for normal.dot and normal.dotm.  Rename any you find to anormal....  Open Word by going through All Programs.  (Do not just click on a document.)  Do you get your warning?

I found three of them in C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates.  Normal, NormalEmail and NormalOld.  I changed all of them to anormal....... the situation still exists.  There is an exclamation mark to the left of each of them as well.

Close Word.

 

 

Right click on (My) Computer and select Manage (Continue) Then click on the arrow in front of Event Viewer. Next Click on the arrow in front of Windows Logs Right click on System and Clear Log, Clear. Repeat for Application.

 

Now open Word and get the error.  Close Word.

and save it to your Desktop:

2. Right-click VEW.exe and Run AS Administrator

3. Under 'Select log to query', select:

 

* Application

4. Under 'Select type to list', select:

* Error

* Warning

 

 

Then use the 'Number of events' as follows:

 

 

1. Click the radio button for 'Number of events'

Type 20 in the 1 to 20 box

Then click the Run button.

Notepad will open with the output log.

Guess that didn't pan out.  Have you tried running some of the Office Diagnostics:

Interestingly enough when I go to Start > All Programs > Microsoft Office > Microsoft Office Tools > Microsoft Office Diagnostics the only item missing is "Microsoft Office Diagnostics".   And yes, I have also tried doing a repair install of the entire program.  Any further ideas?

Apparently they removed it.  One guy says there is an option in the Control Panel but gives no details.  Others say he's dreaming.  I expect he meant this:

but it sounds like you have already done that.

 

Go to Control Panel, Programs and Features,  Click on View Installed Updates.  Have there been any Office or Word updates recently that might have triggered the problem?

Thank you so much for all of your help and suggestions.  I was able to finally get the error message stopped by disabling the third party add-in (Adobe PDF maker).  As soon as I disabled that add-in the error stopped.

Not sure I helped but glad you got it fixed.  You might want to go back and delete the normal template and remove the a from the anormal template if you have set up different defaults from the standard normal template.
