System very slow after XP SP2

Trying to resolve a slow condition after SP2 was loaded. I backed out SP2 and observed WTM hover around 2% when laptop is idle. With SP2, I see WTM at 100% when opened and then drops down to run around 30 - 90% at idle. It is 41 - 66% as I type this (taskmgr is around >11). Ran SPYBOT, AD-AWARE, Registry Mechanic, PC-Pitstop, AVG. Computer is rarely used. I don't expect virus etc.

Still trying to find that majic tool to clear up my problem. I used REGSEEKER today and cleanup after that. I will attach a new HJT below.

SP2 was thw same 4 me mate, lf you have not already, download all critical updates & hotfixe available AFTER SP2 WAS RELEASED available from MS homwpage, am running bluetonder 2 mb broadband ang getting upto speeds of 277k per second now, not bad 4 bleyounder.

If you have probs downloading from MS, go ot www.autopatcher.com git;s a good shrine for all MS updates & & hotfixes in one rar file & installs all files for u.

Thanks for the suggestion. I was already up to date with all updates. It looks like I see the 100% CPU usage whenever I try to open anything (IE, Word, etc.). If I boot and just don't touch anything for 10 minutes, CPU usage drops down to around 12% and higher. If I do anything at all, it jumps up to 100%.

ok try running msconfig from startmenu - run - type msconfig
on the menu under startup tab disable all.
reboot, if your pc seems quicker now, it was that u just had to many
memory munching appz starting up with windows.
If it's still slow, repeat above, but also disable all non-microsft services,
do this by checking the hide all mcrosoft progs box

best way to quickly view memory eating appz, would be in taskmanager

right click on the clock on yout taskbar. highlight task manager, click
processes tab, in the where it's showing the running processes, arrange the view by clicking the mem usage tab, any progz using high mem, close down, with the exception of explorer. you'll probably find it may be your
spyware appz & anti virus appz running system scans @ each system restart.

I tried all you suggested. I didn't improve anything. I have been using Windows Task Manager to track the problem. The biggest memory hog seems to be "svchost.exe" but even when I kill it, it doesn't improve CPU usage by much. I used "msconfig" and stopped everything I could with no improvement. I wonder if I just don't have enough ram for SP2?
When I start in the "safe mode" I do not see the problem. Very quickly, CPU usage drops to 1%. The largest mem usage is "explorer.exe" at 11,000+.
When starting normally, "svchost.exe" is usually around 24,000+.

Problem resolved...
I loaded a bios update that was needed but didn't help at all with the problem.
The fix was found at the Dell forum website that explained that this particular computer (Inspiron 1150) will not run at full speed after SP2 without installing a Dell patch designed to correct the problem:
