Hi,

I built a computer about 4 years ago, so it's in need of an upgrade. I will be getting a new SSD, PSU and CPU, but I'm not sure what to do for GPU.... to SLI or not to SLI.

I currently have a Asus GTX 560 TI, 1GB.

Should I try to find another 560Ti for my upgrade, or could I get a new GPU that would be of good value enough to make it worth 'wasting' my current one? Finding a 560Ti might be easier said than done, as it's not in newegg, tiger direct, etc. But I found one on ebay for $130, so I'm hoping my local computer shop would be able to orderone for less than $200. (These are Canadian prices)

Suggestions on whether to get a second card, or just get a new one?

Welcome back Light Knight>

Is the CX500 still your PSU?  > http://www.corsair.c...ed-power-supply

You will need to do some checking of your MB.   It appearts there is no support for SLI.

The Bad

No SLI support

Hi, and thanks for the reply. I believe you were looking at the wrong topic; that was the computer I built for my father. I have a XFX 550 PSU, though obviously will need to get a new one when I upgrade.

Got it, and I thought I was being clever.

A bit biased here, but not a fan of multiple GPUs, always a pain and hard work to get them running smoothly and I see mentioned on various sites that some game engines do not support SLI.

Googling for similar upgrrades as you, most adviceis togo for a single card upgrade.

You will generate a lot of heat and noise, a case with really good airflow is required.

You will need a new PSU, 700W recommended, > http://www.guru3d.co..._review,14.html

You will still only have 1GB of memory. vRAM.

Can you do some calc.

Your PSU will power a GTX 760.

Buying another 560 ti + PSU.

or.

Sell you existing, buy a single GPU.

Hi,

My case isn't the best for air flow as it is, so perhaps upgrading the card would be the best. Especially if I don't need to purchase another PSU. So after running Extreme Power Supply Calculator, it seems I could upgrade:

i5 2500k -> i7 3770

GTX 560ti -> GTX 760 (or maybe even 770)

Add an SSD.

And still run my 550 watt PSU? I put capacitor aging at 30% as I've had it for about 4 years.

I don't believe your present CPU would bottleneck a GTX 770, I would put my money into GTX 970, and it still would not get bottlenecked.

Depending on what BIOS ver you have, installing a Haswell CPU might need a BIOS upgrade.

PSU compatibility, Watts are OK, have you got the right PCI-e plugs and sufficient Amps on the 12v rail.
