Is it likely that malware could change the save fokder on p2p networks to share your personal files or would the virus just btowse through your files. I don't understand why they would share your personal files.

Hi and welcome to Geeks to Go. :)

It's really important, if you value your PC at all, to stay away from P2P file sharing programs, like utorrent, Bittorrent, Azureus, Limewire, Vuze.
Criminals have "planted" thousands upon thousands of infections in the "free" shared files. Some of the recent infections can turn your machine into a doorstop.
It's also very important to avoid any "cracks" or "Keygens" that allow unauthorized use of programs. Besides being illegal, these files also are loaded with "planted" malware.

P2P software has the ability to create a direct conduit onto your computer, their security measures are easily circumvented, and Malware writers are increasingly exploiting them to spread their infected dross onto your computer. Further to that, if your P2P software is not configured correctly you may be sharing more files than you realise. There have been cases where people's address books, passwords, other personal, private and financial details have been exposed to the file sharing network by a badly configured P2P applications.

My friendly advice would be to uninstall any such software. To be honest I have lost count of the number of machines I have dealt with over the years that became infected due to the use of P2P software...

I have done so. But is it likely that malware could change your p2p settings and change your sharing folder on its own?

Hi. :)

Malware is capable of anything depending on the infection. As for specific P2P settings that I cannot provide any advise about per the forums terms of use apart from problems with removing/uninstalling etc.

Do you think your machine is infected ?

If you think your machine may be infected and or would like for myself to check merely inform myself which exact Operating System your machine has and we will go from there, thank you.
