I recently became interested in the Intel NUC computer.  I see that there are a number of models and I get confused on all the different characteristics, because I can't find a comparison chart for the features of each model.  Basically, I'm interested in an i7 cpu with a high performance motherboard that can handle 16Gb RAM.  I know the rest of the performance is with the add on memory and SSD drive.  I plan to get a 1Tb SSD.  This may cost as much as a regular full size gaming computer, but I need something compact with low energy consumption.

Some functions that I may use it for are a web server, an email server and/or a VPN that stays on continuously.  Is anyone here familiar with the Intel NUC and can suggest a model # that has high performance like a gaming computer?

an i7 version of the nuc isn't available until the 2nd quarter of 2015.

personally i've no experience with nuc and don't see me ever using one myself but here's a couple of links that may help you.

Intel Core i7 NUC has caught my attention, but it's only sold on Amazon.com.  Is there anyway I can find out what the bios is like?  I need to have the ability for it to "Wake On Lan" when I access it through the internet.  Not all bios have this function.  For that matter maybe I could flash in a new bios that does have it.

what you've listed isn't a nuc, in fact it's about twice the size, still small tho and i'd be very very surprised if it wasn't wake on lan capable, but for a definite answer i'd contact the sellers and ask.

here's mitxpc's contact page :- http://www.mitxpc.com/contact.php

just to point out neither a nuc or the mini-itx pc are going to be "like a gaming computer?" even with the i7 cpu's but will be good for what you seem to want it for the most, "Some functions that I may use it for are a web server, an email server and/or a VPN that stays on continuously."
