Hello,

Please delete your copy of OTL. Redownload and rerun. If both logs are created, please attach them in your next reply.

Could it be that the default options are not the ones that I should have? I am just going by what your post says of course.

Hello,

I don't know why Extras.txt is not being generated. Perhaps an issue on Windows 8.1 machines.
I've tried on my own Windows 8.1 machine and could not generate an Extras.txt either (using various different options).

Please do the following.

STEP 1
U5NwUGc.png Reset Chrome Homepage

  • Open Chrome.
  • Type chrome://settings/homePageOverlay into the URL bar.
  • Place a checkmark next to Open this page:
  • Enter the URL of your desired homepage (eg. http://www.google.com ) into the textfield.

STEP 2
xlK5Hdb.png Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST) Script

  • Press the Windows Key pdKOQKY.png + r on your keyboard at the same time. Type Notepad and click OK.
  • Copy the entire contents of the codebox below and paste into the Notepad document.
    start
    reg: reg query "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall"
    reg: reg query "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall"
    end
  • Click FileSave As and type fixlist.txt as the File Name
  • Important: The file must be saved in the same location as FRST64.exe.

NOTICE: This script is intended for use on this particular machine. Do not use this script on any other machine; doing so may cause damage to your Operating System.

  • Right-Click FRST64.exe and select AVOiBNU.jpg Run as administrator to run the programme.
  • Click Fix.
  • A log (Fixlog.txt) will open on your desktop. Copy the contents of the log and paste in your next reply.

Look at my first post though, that contains extras.txt. Those are based off of the stickied topic :). Anyways, what you asked for has been done.

Hello,

That's strange regarding OTL. As I said, I ran various OTL scans earlier (including the same scan you mentioned) and Extras.txt was not produced.
I don't have an explanation for this one.

---------------

Moving on...
The uninstall keys are still present. So that's good news.

I'd now like to direct you to our techs in the Windows 8 forum who are more versed in dealing with non-malware issues.
http://www.geekstogo.../188-windows-8/

When you create your new topic requesting assistance with your missing programmes, please ensure you mention your machine has been cleaned of malware, SFC/CHKDSK have been run, and we've confirmed the associated uninstall keys are present.

---------------

We can now remove the tools used.

All Clean!
Congratulations, your computer appears clean! smile.png
I no longer see signs of malware on your computer. The steps below will remove the tools we have used, and reset any settings changed. I have also provided a list of resources and tools that you may find useful

My help will always be free. But if you are happy with the help provided, and would like to support my fight against malware and/or buy me a beer, please consider a donation. YSCcjW7.png

AFZxnZc.jpg DelFix

  • Please download DelFix and save the file to your Desktop.
  • Double-click DelFix.exe to run the programme.
  • Place a checkmark next to the following items:
    • Activate UAC
    • Remove disinfection tools
    • Create registry backup
    • Purge system restore
    • Reset system settings
  • Click the Run button.

-- This will remove the specialised tools we used to disinfect your system. Any leftover logs, files, folders or tools remaining on your Desktop which were not removed can be deleted manually (right-click the file + delete).

--- Malwarebytes Anti-Malware will still be present on your computer. I recommend keeping this programme, updating and scanning with it once a week to maintain security on your computer. If you do not wish to keep this programme on your computer, you can uninstall it by pressing the Windows Key pdKOQKY.png + r on your keyboard at the same time, typing appwiz.cpl, clicking OK and searching for Malwarebytes.

I have compiled below a list of resources you may find useful. The articles document information on computer security, common infection vectors and how you can stay safe on the Internet.

Thank you very much in your assistance good sir. I was right in knowing that this was above my level of knowledge :). I did not know about the "unchecky" software, this is a good one for my friend as this is almost certainly how this infection came about. I once again greatly appreciate your assistance in this matter :).
