Hi,

I have recently installed a 500GB on my laptop replacing my existing HDD. I have reinstalled from scratch Windows 7 and all the drivers on my main partition (Disk C) which according to Windows Disk Management has a capacity of 195.21GB. A few days ago I have realised that the space available on this partition is only 81.86GB, meaning that I should have already used almost 114GB. However, when I selected all folders on this partition (including the hidden ones) + the space occupied by Dropbox I get only 51.31GB. So where are my 63GB gone?

I never had a similar issue with my old HDD and I don't know if it's something wrong with my SSD, with my Windows or if there is something else that I am missing here.

Any help is much appreciated.

Hi daniel :)

I think I have an idea of what's wrong here  Open your Windows Explorer and press on the Alt key to bring up the menus. From there, click on the Extra menu and select Folder Options. Under the View tab, uncheck Hide protected operating system files (recommended) and check Show hidden files, folders and drives. You'll see more files and folders being displayed directly on your C: drive. Check the size of each and let us know which ones takes the most space.

Hi Aura,

I have already done this and and when I mentioned that I have selected all folders and got only 51.31GB this includes the hidden folders and files. I've done it again now and this is 57.7GB (including hidden files and folders).

System files aren't the same thing as Hidden files, hence why I told you to uncheck Hide protected operating system files (recommended) and check Show hidden files, folders and drives.. On the root of your C: drive, do you see a folder called $Recycle.Bin?
