Points of note here Ricky;

 

I am helping more people than just yourself here, I have just finished a 12hr shift, I am in the UK and so in a different timezone to that of yourself + I give my time freely but cannot be here 24/7  :(

 

Voltages and most temps are fine but the video card is too hot for for one that is not under load, it shouldn't be pushed passed 60C for too long or it will fry.

Sincere apologies, quite thoughtless of me.

 

I have downloaded the 'Furmark'   ..... and it has been running now for 6 hours with the GPU stress test covering 30,000 + frames and still going ..... is that what it should be doing?

It has now been running for 9 hours + covering 66,000 frames ..... no apparent results yet.

 

 

 

After 10hours + I stopped the test, here is a screen shot -

Sorry if I've done something wrong, but I understand absolutely nothing about these things ....

No harm done and thank you for understanding  :thumbsup:

 

You card has passed your comprehensive testing which btw generates a fair amount of heat so you have hopefully ruled out two possible causes of the problem in one go.

 

Please do the following;

 

Uninstall Furmark.

Change your power plan settings to as detailed below;

Power Profile
Active power scheme: High performance Change this to Balanced.
Hibernation: Disabled Leave as is it is.
Turn Off Monitor after: (On AC Power): 20 min Change this to never.
Turn Off Hard Disk after: (On AC Power): 20 min Change this to never.
Suspend after: (On AC Power): Never Leave as it is.
Screen saver: Enabled Disable this.
 
Run msconfig to see if it helps to identify what is causing the problem

These are good tutorials on using msconfig in XP, Vista or Windows 7:
How to use msconfig in Windows XP
How to use msconfig in Windows Vista
How to use msconfig in Windows 7 and Windows 8

Click on Start then type msconfig into the search field and then press Enter.
Click on the Startup tab (for Windows 8, the Startup tab has a link to open Task Manager/Startup tab. Use that.) make a note of what is currently starting then click the Disable Allbutton.
Reboot and see if it runs better.
If yes then use msconfig to enable several items at a time till you find the culprit.


If no, start msconfig and click on the Services tab.
Check the Hide All Microsoft Services box, record what is currently starting then click the Disable All button.
Again, do a regular boot, see if it runs normal.
If yes then use msconfig to enable services until you find the culprit.


Once you've found the culprit, uninstall it or find out how to eliminate it from your system. Simply disabling it in msconfig is a temporary fix at best.

Enable everything else you disabled.

First instructions completed okay :)

 

2nd instructions followed to the best of my ability, could find no culprit, but I really am not understanding of these things at all, sorry I can't be more positive - the machine appears to be running quite okay up to this time imo lol

 

My "D" drive (for DVDs and CDs) has gone, ie doesn't register or show - maybe I've deleted or disabled something I shouldn't have? ...... I'm really baffled with that :headscratch:

Device Status:

Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19) ....................

 

 

Reinstall device driver

There is a problem with the driver for HL-DT-ST DVDRAMGH20NS15 ATA Device.
Reinstalling the driver might fix this problem.

 

 

I can't find that anywhere, :(

Modern optical drives such as CD and DVD burners etc do not tend to need specific drivers as they use generic ones.

 

1. Click on the Start button and then choose Control Panel.
2. Click on the System and Security link.
Note: If you're viewing the Large icons or Small iconsview of Control Panel, you won't see this link so just click on the Administrative Tools icon and skip to Step 4.
3. In the System and Security window, click on the Administrative Tools heading located near the bottom of the window.
4. In the Administrative Tools window, double-click on the Computer Management icon.
5. When Computer Management opens, click on Disk Management on the left side of the window, located under Storage.
After a brief loading period, Disk Management should now appear on the right side of the Computer Management window.
Note: If you don't see Disk Management listed, you may need to click on the |> icon to the left of the Storage icon.
 
To capture and post a screenshot;
 
Click on the ALT key + PRT SCR key..its on the top row..right hand side..now click on start...all programs...accessories...paint....left click in the white area ...press CTRL + V...click on file...click
on save...save it to your desktop...name it something related to the screen your capturing... BE SURE TO SAVE IT AS A .JPG ...otherwise it may be to big to upload... then after typing in any response you have... click on browse...desktop...find the screenshot..select it and click on the upload button...then on the lower left...after it says upload successful...click on add reply like you normally would.
 
Screenshot instructions are provided to assist those that may read this topic but are not yet aware of the “how to”.

Aye Windows is definitely not seeing the device for whatever reason  :(

 

Restart the computer to access the BIOS, if the optical drive is detected and listed there try the steps below one at a time and testing after each one;

 

1. Uninstall the drive through Device Manager.
Restart computer. The drive will be automatically reinstalled.
or...
2. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060
Restart computer.
or...
3. Download, and run  http://www.dougknox.com/xp/scripts_desc/xp_cd_dvd_fix.htm
Double click on cdgone.zip to unzip it.
Right click on cdgone.reg, click Merge.
Accept registry merge.
Restart computer.
or...
4. Go to Device Manager, click a "+" sign next to IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers.
You'll see two items:
- ATA Channel0 (or Primary Channel)
- ATA Channel1 (or Secondary Channel)
Right click on each of them, and click Uninstall. Confirm.
Restart Windows. They'll be automatically reinstalled.

I'm so sorry, my tired old eyes just cannot find the key to press to go into the BIOS .... I tried several times, restarting and looking, but it goes off so fast!

 

 

I went through all the tests anyway, just in case it was there ... but no luck - here's a screen shot of the last test

To access the BIOS try continually tapping the Del or the Esc key when you restart the computer, alternatively try a system restore point that is before the drive disappeared (see below) incidentally the only software updates normally required for optical drives is firmware updates but even these are rare;

 

To restore system files and settings using a specific restore point
  1. Open System Restore by clicking the Start button 4f6cbd09-148c-4dd8-b1f2-48f232a2fd33_818. In the search box, type System Restore, and then, in the list of results, click System Restore.‍ 18abb370-ac1e-4b6b-b663-e028a75bf05b_48. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

  2. Do one of the following:

    • If there is a recommended restore point, click Choose a different restore point, and then click Next.

    • If there isn't a recommended restore point, click Next.

  3. Click the restore point that you want, and then click Next.

    To view the programs and drivers that will be affected (which could include programs that will be deleted), click Scan for affected programs.

  4. Review the restore point, and then click Finish.

If the drive is not detected in the BIOS it is a hardware issue with the two most obvious culprits being a failed drive or a bad/loose power or drive data cable.

 

Does the drive tray open/close, if yes if you insert a disk does the drive spin up.

Yes, the drive does open and close, and the disc definitely moves ....

 

 

I think I may/could have disabled something that I shouldn't have?

There are no changes that you can make within Windows that would prevent the BIOS from detecting the drive, have you made any changes within the BIOS or just Windows.

 

In the BIOS do you see the option to restore the motherboards factory default settings, they may also be listed as "most stable settings" if yes to either try this in case the optical drive has been disabled in the BIOS, please note that if there is an option for "optimal settings" it should not be selected as it can make the computer unstable.

 

If need be would you be comfortable with checking that the data cable for the drive has not come loose or is damaged etc.
