I consider myself somewhat computer savvy, had most of the proggies that were suggested in the pinned post of what to do before asking for help. Been a student of the windows registry since my Windows 95 comp was infected with Back Orifice, or BO (removed). Anyway I found an infection of Aurora and think I got it all but something still seems amiss with my computer. Could someone take a look at my log file and tell me what ya think? By the way, I did read, understand, and follow the instructions on the pinned page (http://www.geekstogo..._Log-t2852.html).

Welcome to Geeks to Go!

Yes, this forum is definitely busy! I see some weird things going on in your log, but before I can help you with it I need you to download XP Service Pack 1.

Apply the update, reboot, and post a fresh Hijack This log into this topic.

I tried earlier and waited for 15 minutes or so for the darn page to load. I thought that I had already installed SP1 and since I never got any security warnings or prompted for any installations, it just reaffirmed that or so I thought. I had to use the option for non-MSIE users and just downloaded the service pack, It's installing now, Ill be back in a few minutes after restart.

Good news is that I don't see any traces of Aurora! :tazz:

Have you already gone into Add/Remove programs and removed everything pertaining to Norton/Symantec?

Run HiJackThis. Place a check next to the following items and click FIX CHECKED:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=
O21 - SSODL: tVFGoxgvZRJsjxD - {6443AE84-CEE9-042E-AC3A-30487BB7DA14} - blank (file missing)

Close HiJackThis.

Then, please run this online virus scan:
ActiveScan

Copy the results of the ActiveScan and paste them here along with a new HiJackThis log.

No, I don't need a restart, just need you to fix those items, run ActiveScan and post the results. And I need to know if you remove Norton/Symantec from Add/Remove programs.

I'll make sure to tell you everything I need done :tazz:

lol Ok, no problem! I still see one Symantec service in your log. But, if you removed Norton earlier and haven't restarted your computer yet, then it would probably be a good idea to restart your computer after ActiveScan. But, if you did restart after removing Norton from Add/Remove programs then there is no reason to restart your computer. :tazz:

If after restart the service is still there we can delete it and the associated folder.

The reason I thought you had removed Symantec tonight was because your original log was showing the Symantec Services, but they are not showing in your most recent log. Did you fix these items in HiJackThis and did you fix anything else in HJT?

* Please download the Killbox by Option^Explicit.

* Save it to your desktop.

* Run Killbox.exe.

* Select "Delete on Reboot".

* Copy the file names below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them then press CTRL + C

C:\WINDOWS\delprot.ini
C:\WINDOWS\deskbar.ini
C:\WINDOWS\ogppgjc.exe
C:\WINDOWS\Temp\THI2B7C.tmp\farmmext.inf
C:\WINDOWS\Temp\THI2B7C.tmp\farmmext.ini
C:\WINDOWS\Temp\THI4248.tmp\farmmext.inf
C:\WINDOWS\Temp\THI4248.tmp\farmmext.ini

* Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard".

* Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt. If your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually.

After your computer reboots, please delete the following folders, in bold:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\services
C:\WINDOWS\isrvs
C:\WINDOWS\inst

Post another HiJackThis log.

I didn't fix anything in HJT but I did a registry clean with RegSeeker while I was waiting on the active scan. Is there anything I can do about the Symantec? And do you recommend SP2 when we get my comp all cleaned?

I didn't fix anything in HJT but I did a registry clean with RegSeeker while I was waiting on the active scan.

Ah, I see. Nice - that means we don't have to delete them :tazz:

Is there anything I can do about the Symantec?

Yep, about to tell you how to do that.

And do you recommend SP2 when we get my comp all cleaned?

Absolutely!

Go to Start->Run and type "Services.msc" (without quotes) then hit Ok
Scroll down and find the below service:

SymWMI Service (SymWSC)

When you find it, double-click on it. In the next window that opens, click the Stop button, then click on properties and under the General Tab, change the Startup Type to Disabled. Now hit Apply and then Ok.

Run HiJackThis. Click on "None of the above, just start the program". Now, click on the "Config" button (bottom right), then click on "Misc Tools", then click on "Delete an NT Service" a window will pop up. Enter the below item into that field (copy and paste):

SymWSC

Click ok.

It should pull up information about the service, when it asks if you want to reboot now click YES.

While it's restarting, tap the F8 key to enter Safe Mode. Delete the following folder (if any files are "in use", go into the folder and delete whatever files it will let you, then give me the exact names of the files you couldn't delete (if any):

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared
