I recently had a website that I used to be a member of, come up in a browser unintentionally, I have never visited that site from that machine. However, I recently logged into the Google account associated with that membership. Could Google tracking and history be responsible for this? If not, do you have another explanation?

yep. if you have google tracking and history enabled it will bring your search/access history across to other systems that are capable of having that info (if you use chrome, and you're logged in to your google account in chrome for example)
