I have a windows 8 pc, and while attempting to install some software, the vosteran infection got installed. I am unable to see the screen just after I log in, it goes dark, and only the mouse cursor is visible. I uninstalled the vosteran program as soon as I saw the icon on the desktop, but then the screen got dark. Can you help to remove this? Maybe access in safe mode or through bios could help. Im using a tablet to contact you, but have access to another laptop incase you have software to troubleshoot the problem I need to install. It will havd to be installed through a thumb drive, because the infected computer goes dark as soon as I do the initial password login on the windows bootup. Please help

My name's Naathim and I'm a GeekU Minion! Now that we are mates and will be working together to clean your machine out of any junkware, feel free to call me Naat :)

Before we start please note the following:

icon_arrow.gif Analysis and research take some time, also sometimes real life gets in the way, please be patient.
icon_arrow.gif Limit your internet access to posting here, some infections just wait to steal typed-in passwords.
icon_arrow.gif Don't run any scripts or tools on your own, unsupervised usage may cause more harm than good.
icon_arrow.gif Paste the logs in your posts, attachments make my work harder and more complicated.
icon_arrow.gif Stay with me to the end, the absence of symtoms doesn't mean that your machine is fully operational.
icon_arrow.gif Note that we may live in totally different time zones, what may cause some delays between answers.

icon_idea.gif I can't foresee everything, so if anything unexpected happens, please stop and inform me!
icon_idea.gif There are no silly questions. Never be afraid to ask if in doubt!

Let's start and enjoy the fight! :)

Access the Safe Mode with Networking (by tapping F8 at the boot-up) and if operational do the instructions below. If not, please let me know and we will try something another.

FRST.gif Scan with Farbar Recovery Scan Tool

Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool x64 and save it to your Desktop.

  • Right-click on FRST.gif icon and select RunAsAdmin.jpg Run as Administrator to start the tool.
    > Windows 8 users will be prompted about Windows SmartScreen protection - click More information and Run.
  • When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
  • Make sure that Addition option is checked.
  • Press Scan button and wait.
  • The tool will produce two logfiles on your desktop: FRST.txt and Addition.txt.

Please include their content in your next reply.

F8 is not working. It continues the start up to the login page. I noticed that as I started entering the password, that a new eye shaped icon appears on the password line, this was never there before. I tried restart with the same result.
