Aura: Can you explain this to me?

When I right click C:\DocumentsandSettings\AKS and click Properties I see that that folder has 8.95 GB. When I left click it I see it has these subfolders: (and when I rclick each and go to Properties) I see that each has these sizes.

.android                183

Desktop                 705 MB

Favorites                19.8 kB

nsapp                       46.9 MB

pss                          empty

Start Menu               38.1 KB

WINDOWS                0

Clearly these don't add to 8.95 GB??? Is it that the 0 for Windows is not right and that WINDOWS really accounts for most of 8.98 GB?

Most likely because all the size is in the hidden folder "Application Data" that you don't see. In order to see it, you have to go in the Folder Options and check Show hidden files, folders and drives.

Aura: I am now having trouble posting here. Hope this gets through.

Aura: OK, I have read it that Microsoft article (for first time). But I am still not clear as to what you are telling me to do now. Don't understand "Should had linked you it from the start, way easier that way :P"

Really so sorry to be so dense. ... batpark

Simply follow these instructions:

Change the Default Location of the My Documents Folder

To change the default location of the My Documents folder, follow these steps:
Click Start, and then point to My Documents.
Right-click My Documents, and then click Properties.
Click the Target tab.
In the Target box, do one of the following:
Type the path to the folder location that you want, and then click OK. For example, D:\My Stuff.

If the folder does not exist, the Create Message dialog box is displayed. Click Yes to create the folder, and then click OK.

-or-
Click Move, click the folder in which to store your documents, and then click OK twice.

If you need to create a new folder, click Make New Folder. Type a name for the folder, and then click OK twice.
In the Move Documents box, click Yes to move your documents to the new location, or click No to leave your documents in the original location.

Aura:OK,  I <think> I see the way now! Thanks for your patience.

Will this move the stuff in C:\DocumentsandSettings\AKS\My Documents (782MB) to E:?

1. I have created a new folder in E: ....... E:\aksmydocs

2. Go to My Documents, right click it and then click Properties.

3. Click the Target tab and type E:\aksmydocs in the box

4. Click MOVE and Yes two times.

This should move the 4 folders and 428 files now in C:\DocumentsandSettings\AKS\MyDocuments

 into the new directory in E: and delete those files and folders from

 C:  ........ thereby saving 782 MB on the C:drive.

Have I finally gotten it right?  ...batpark

You do not have to delete anything, nor should you delete the My Documents folder on the C: drive. All the files and folders will be moved automatically on the E: drive so they won't be on the C: drive anymore and you need to leave the original My Documents folder on the C: drive to keep the redirection. Please proceed with the instructions you just gave me, minus the "delete" part.

Dear Aura: I <did> it. Finally, I understood your instructions, and I successfully moved the C:\Documents and Settings\aks\MyDocuments folder to my E:drive, thereby gaining g some 780MB of free space. A hundred thanks for your patience.  .... batpark

No problem bat :) Maybe we can uninstall some useless programs to gain back additional space?

3Al62Pm.pngList Installed Programs
  • Download MiniToolBox and move it to your Desktop;
  • Execute it by double-clicking on it;
  • Check the "List Installed Programs" checkbox;

Aura: Here (I think) is the log I generated using the Mini Tool Box tool.  Is it what you asked for? I certainly welcome your suggestions on what I can safely eliminate. ... batpark

I noticed that you have a malicious program installed on your system, as well as two others that looks suspicious. Which means that you are infected with malware and there's probably more hiding on your system. I suggest you to post a thread in the Virus, Spyware, Malware Removal section to get checked by one of your malware removal experts that will help you identify the infection and remove it. Be sure to follow follow the instructions in the preparation guide prior to posting your thread there.

Once you are cleaned and declared clean, comeback in this thread and we'll continue together, alright? :)
