Okay, so i have a new laptop. And i wanna give my old laptop to my mom. But i want all my files and stuff off it. Kind of like a reformat. How would i go about that? Even if i use the return to factory settings option.. i heard some files and settings might be recoverable...

I heard i should use DBAN (dariks boot and nuke) program...

It's possible for some files to be recovered using data recovery software, yes. However, I don't see why it would bother you since you'll be giving that laptop to your mom, and I guess she doesn't know about it, nor how to go about it. And more importantly, why would she do that?

Theres just personal files on my machine. Like passwords and documents... that are for my eyes only.. (no porn).........

Well, it's possible to use DBAN on the drive and wipe it 3 times for secure deletion, but like I said, why would your mom do that? And does she even knows how to proceed? It's your call. I can assist you in using DBAN and/or reinstalling Windows 7 to do a clean reinstallation. Your call

Yeah i will go with a clean reinstall of win 7
