I'm considering on purchasing the refillable ink cartridges for my Epson WF-600 and my WF-3640, but Amazon.com seems to be selling separate ink for different cartridges.  Are the inks for these two printers so much different that I need to buy separate ink bottles?  Aren't these inks compatible with these two different cartridges? 

 

Also I see that they use terminology for these inks that I'm new to.  Is there a difference between an ink and a dye?

Thanks.  So pigmented ink has micro particles whereas dye does not.  So if I understand you correctly, then I can use the ink dye that I have left over from my HP Deskjet cartridge refill kit in my Epson refillable cartridges so long as it is not a pigment.  Then all dye inks are the same for any brand of printer and safer for refilling than pigmented inks.

Correct.

Dye-based inks are the same, but the cartridges are different sizes/shapes.

Hi, just for general information, refilling cartridges is OK if only printing text, even in different colours, however each manufacturer of printers uses slightly different levels or amount of dye mixture in their own cartridges, the printer is then set work with those levels. Refilling with a general purpose ink or dye can result in poor colour quality in photographs, especially where colour might be important.
