Hi! For weeks I have been trying to get rid of pop ups. Blocked 3rd party cookies, Promt 1st party cookies, terminated connection to 66.220.17.155 (I get pop ups from other sites as well) on ewido, and ran programs suggested from this site. Please help. Below is HJT log. THANKS

Thanks for your help. This is what I have done. I downloaded regfixes.zip and ran both programs. I think I got rid of more than I wanted to. I uninstalled service pack 2 and reinstalled XP home edition, reinstalled service pack 2 except for Security Update for Windows XP (KB873333). It fails to load. Then I kept getting a message that my registry was corrupt, so I got PC tools registry mechanic and ran that. I found "Aim amen eggs 64" which was in my 1st log and deleted that. I don't know if all that got rid of the pop ups but I hope so. Here is my log.

Hi michelle s and welcome to GeeksToGo! My name is Excal and I will be helping you.

I can see that you have some malware issues. This maybe a few step process in removing it. I encourage you to stick with it and follow my directions as closely as possible so as to avoid complicating the problem further.

Before you do anything else, please create a folder for HijackThis and put it in a permanent folder (like C:\HJT) instead of the Temp folder. This is required because HijackThis will create backups and we don't want them to be deleted

Do you know what this program/file is? C:\WINDOWS\FSA.exe If you do not know what this is, please do the following:

Please go here and upload

C:\WINDOWS\FSA.exe

then please post the results in your next reply.

Download and install CleanUp! Here
We will use this program later.

Please update you Ewido if you haven't done so already :tazz:

Please read this post completely, it may make it easier for you if you copy and paste this post to a new text document or print it for reference later.

1. Click this link to be sure you can view hidden files.

2. Ensure you are NOT connected to the internet.

3. Reboot into safe mode.

Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

4. Go to Start->Run and type in services.msc and hit OK. Then look for Mouse lwuqpfetbest (MsUpdate6) and double click on it. Click on the Stop button and under Startup type, choose Disabled.

5. Close all browsers, windows and unneeded programs.

6. Open HiJack and do a scan.

7. Put a Check next to the following items:

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://minisearch.startnow.com
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,Default_Search_URL = http://minisearch.startnow.com

Hi. I did everything and I still can't download the security update. I also have a hard time getting into my hotmail. I always thought the server was busy but now I'm thinking it could be this. I checked everything on the HJT list but it looks like some of it came back. Here are my logs:

Hi! I couldn't find C:\WINDOWS\FSA.exe. I tried looking for it google to see what it was and when I did McAfee popped up and said trojan detected and cleaned. It was Exploit-mht Redir.gen. Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\21GFBWJ8. File t-11861[1].htm.
It looks like I got rid of everything except C:WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\bridge.??? and bridge.inf. I deleted 2 programs but it wasn't in there. I ran activescan and now it looks like I have Eblaster. I ran ewido and McAfee Virus scan and it is still there. Here is the log

Hi Michelle,

Great job so far ;)

Lets try This ;)

Just a few random bad files to clean up.
  • Open HiJackThis
  • Click on the configure button on the bottom right
  • Click on the tab "Misc Tools"
  • Click on "Delete File on Reboot"
  • Navigate to this file - C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\bridge.inf
  • Double click on that file.
  • HJT asks you if you want to reboot, now. Click "no".

Do that for the following files also, until you get to the last one, then click "yes" when HJT asks you to reboot.

C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\bridge.???
C:\WINDOWS\FSA.exe

After reboot:

I think it would serve you well to clean your registry!
  • Please dowload: RegSeeker.
  • Click on "Clean The Registry" in the left panel.
  • Check all boxes (make sure the backup box in the lower left corner is selected!).
  • After it runs, click "Select All" on the bottom, then right-click on any selected item in the window and select "Delete Selected Items".
  • Click "Quit RegSeeker".
Now, open any of your installed programs, and make sure that everything opens ok. If so, reboot, then go back and run the RegSeeker again, do the same thing again if anything is found. When RegSeeker finds nothing else, then it's clean!

Please run Ewido and the McAfee scan in Safe mode. Reboot, then post back on how it worked out for you :tazz:

Hi!
I think I got rid of everything. I couldn't find FSA.exe anywhere, even on the hijack log. I deleted everything in my downloaded programs and I still kept getting bridge. inf and bridge???. I finally got rid of it with Panda TruPrevent. I'm still working on the registry. I clean reboot clean etc... Here is my HJT log.

Hi Michelle ;)

Please go to start > run and type: regsvr32 /u occache.dll

this should make those 2 bridge files visible for you. As soon as your done that, you need to reregister the .dll by doing this.

Please go to start > run and type: regsvr32 occache.dll

Post back and let me know how you make out ;)

Thanks,

:tazz:

HI
I entered both of those and each time a box popped up saying it succeeded. On the regseeker the same things pop up after I keep deleting them. HKEY_CLASS_ROOT Applications\WINWORD.EXE Unused "Open with" entry,
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SOFTWARE\McAfee.com\Agent\Update\Download\McUpdUILog File or Path does not exist (there are 10 of these)
HKEY_CURRENT_USER Software\Panda Software Obsolete entry
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SOFTWARE\Winsock2 Obsolete entry.
I only have one thing in the activescan. Here is that log

Incident Status Location

Adware:Adware/ExactSearch No disinfected Windows Registry

Thanks,
Michelle

Hi Michelle,

Applications\WINWORD.EXE Unused "Open with" entry,
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SOFTWARE\McAfee.com\Agent\Update\Download\McUpdUILog File or Path does not exist (there are 10 of these)
HKEY_CURRENT_USER Software\Panda Software Obsolete entry
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SOFTWARE\Winsock2 Obsolete entry.

None of those are malicious.

Adware:Adware/ExactSearch No disinfected Windows Registry

As far as this one, I believe it to be harmless. Run a Spybot S&D twice to see if it comes up with a registry key.

Thanks,
