I am trying to build a workstation specifically for Photoshop, graphics, audio editing, programming etc.

 

I do not plan on doing any overclocking 
 
Main work would be on Photoshop, Indesign and Illustrator. No games or movies.

By the way, i do not plan on doing any 3d work for now

 

Should i go for Xeon Processor instead of i7?

Please double check your parts list.   Your CPU is socket LGA2011-3

​Not compatible with your MB, which is Socket 1150.

You may need to look again at the RAM QVL, after selecting another MB.

Is the second SSD to be used as a scratch disk.

The changed the CPU and did not check for the socket.

 

 

 

Yes, the 2nd SSD is for the scratch disk.

 

I am leaning towards Intel xeon E3-1231 v3

 

My present system is  6 to 7 years old, and i am quite out of date with the latest tech in computers.

 

Can a midrange workstation be built under $1500 ?

A i7-5820K build is not possible with a limited budget, the one for your consideration is still over the top,m but Is what I would build.

I did not start the build as i was not confident in the parts listed above. I didnt know if they were the best specs for my need. So i have put it on hold for the time.

Is going for Intel Core i7-4790K instead of  Intel Core i5-4690K bring any benefit in terms of multitasking ? Theres a $100 difference between both.

Whatever you go with, definitely get as much RAM as possible. An SSD will help too but not as much as RAM will where Photoshop's concerned. (And they're correct on using an SSD scratch disk; it won't matter if you have plenty of RAM.)

 

Even a "mid-range" video card will handle Photoshop just fine. You don't need a bleeding-edge, top-of-the-line CPU but, of course, the peppier, the better.

 

I am aiming for 32GB at the moment, dont know if going for 64GB RAM would have me change the Motherboard etc.

 

So the Graphics Card does not have to be top end. Would going with GeForce GTX 960 2GB Video Card bring any considerable performance comapred to GeForce GTX 750 Ti ?

Also, i am looking for a 10bit monitor within below $450 range. That is why i chose the Ezio in my parts list.

If you want to use a 10-bit capable display Lets's get concrete evidence that, "Even a "mid-range" video card will handle Photoshop just fine. As far as I know, though I may be mistaken, only the Quadro/FirePro give that support.

 

Please recheck the specs for the EIZO FS2434, it may be 8-bit with dithering, not true 10-bit.

I think ill let off with 10bit monitor support for now due to the budget of $1500.

 

How aboud going wtih Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO for cooler or should i opt for noctua

I have been unable to configure a build using the latest Xeon platform that would give you a similar performance for $1500.  closer to $2700, 

 

FYI.   Using a different cooling solution, other than the stock one supplied with a boxed CPU will void you 3 year warranty, same for overclocking beyond the specified CPU Turbo Boost. Should you need to make a claim for damage, and Intel or AMD become aware of the fact/s, your claim could be rejected.   I advice using the stock cooler at first, and if you are unhappy with the results, then change to an after market one, but you do so at your own risk.

 

I think the Asus monitor is a good choice.

 

About the only way to get the price down is to use 16GB of RAM, but it will lower the performance,.
