had to  remove a bunch of malware removers and  pc cleaners etc tha mother in law loaded--now the computer says connected to internet but home page does not open--says I have to verify the current proxy server configuration--no idea what to do--62 old user--any fixes or advice

Since you didn't respond, I will give you general instructions how to disable the proxy settinsg.

Step 1
Click the gear icon in the upper-right corner of the Internet Explorer window, then click "Internet options" on the drop-down menu. A new window appears.

Step 2
Click the "Connections" tab at the top of the "Internet Options" window.

Step 3
Click the "LAN settings" button. This displays a new window titled "Local Area Network (LAN) Settings."

Step 4
Clear the check from the box labeled "Use a proxy server for your LAN."

Step 5
Clear the check from the box labeled "Use automatic configuration script."

Step 6
Click "OK" twice. Internet Explorer no longer attempts to contact a proxy server when accessing the Web.
