Hello again, I have been having an issue for the past few weeks that is my computer is randomly bluescreening with a different error every time it seems like, or just outright freezing, keeping what I was last doing on screen but frozen up so I cannot move the mouse, while also producing this buzzing sound from the speakers.

 

I was googling the errors, and also from what you said here before to try memtest, but for some reason I can press F12 to go to the boot device menu, but I cant use the arrow keys or keyboard at all once it gets to that selection screen, forcing me to have to restart the computer and unable to boot from anything besides the main drive (which it does automatically), but a week or so ago, I did try the memtest that runs while windows is on, and I left it with like 4 windows open for like 5 hours, and it didn't freeze and found no problems with my RAM.

 

My temperatures are on normal levels, the same way they always have been.

 

I even got frustrated enough that I reinstalled windows 8 just to see if it fixed the problem, but after a day or so it froze up again. It can be anything, just internet browsing, playing games etc, its just weird, and I can't really duplicate it, it just happens.

 

I go to the event viewer and every time it crashes it gives something like this:

Any help would be nice, its getting very frustrating not knowing when or why this is happening

It sounds like a hardware problem. Usually connected to the ram like you posted.

You posted that you re-installed windows 8. How did you manage to boot from the DVD?

 

If you cant boom to mem test try this method of checking ram it reboots the computer and runs from the beginning

Also look at the mother board see if all the capacitors (look like small barrels) are flat and not puffy or with something on them

I actually did manage to get my keyboard working, I had also reset the bios to fail-safe to see if that did anything and apparently it turned off legacy support. Apparently it let keyboards work in bios and to select menus, but not the boot device menu lol.

 

Anyway, I got memtest to work after like 2 hours, and it has been going for about 10 hours scanning my 12gb and it only has done 4 passes, but so far it says it has found no problems. I am leaving it to go even longer as I have work today, and I hear the recommended number of passes is 8-10.

 

However this leads me to believe it is a hard drive problem, as with 10 hours and 4 passes of scanning you would think it would have found something at all.

 

It had been fine for a while, but for some reason it happens a LOT (as in 3-4 times) when I was playing company of heroes 2 last night, like it is triggering it somehow. It still does it just when I am browsing among other things, but it has frozen with the buzz sound, or bluescreened on COH 2 the most out of what I have seen.

 

I hope its a HD problem, those are easy to replace.

 

Now that I think about it, I always have my external drive with steam and all my games on it, if that had a problem would that make my PC crash somehow? I doubt it since it does not have windows on it, the internal does, but I am just throwing it out there.

Can you post the brand and model name or number details for the PSU MrPerson.

 

Download Speedfan and install it.  Once it's installed, run the program and post here the information it shows.  The information I want you to post is the stuff that is circled in the example picture I have attached.

If you are running on a vista machine, please go to where you installed the program and run the program as administrator.

 Download then run HWMonitor and post a screenshot so that we have a comparison to the Speedfan results, details from here

 

To capture and post a screenshot;

 

Click on the ALT key + PRT SCR key..its on the top row..right hand side..now click on start...all programs...accessories...paint....left click in the white area ...press CTRL + V...click on file...click on save...save it to your desktop...name it something related to the screen your capturing... BE SURE TO SAVE IT AS A .JPG ...otherwise it may be to big to upload... then after typing in any response you have... click on browse...desktop...find the screenshot..select it and click on the upload button...then on the lower left...after it says upload successful...click on add reply like you normally would.

It is still doing the memtest passes, so i can't do that right now, but like I said, my temps are fine. I use open hardware monitor when I play games, and the highest it has EVER been is 80c and that is only in rare circumstances. at idle its less than 40c in all areas

We need to take a look at not only the temps but the voltages as well, no rush btw if you are still testing the Ram.

I do have a small intake fan in the front of my computer that broke almost a year ago, so that hasn't been on at all as I have not gotten around to fix it yet, but I have had no overheating problems, but as you requested, here is the pics. Don't know why there are the big white boxes on the pictures, I followed the directions above.

oh yea, I completely forgot to mention, after about 20 hours of doing memtest, it got through 8 passes, and found no errors, so does that basically remove the possibility of RAM being the issue?

The Ram looks less likely as the cause after coming up clean after 8 passes.

 

Are you overclocking.

 

Use the Intel diagnostic tool to test the CPU, details here

No, I do not overclock, as I do not have the money to replace parts if they were to break, and overclocking only accelerates the deterioration of the parts.

 

Here are the test results. Strange that it has not bluescreened or frozen in the last couple days. It is also strange how that program says I only have 8gb of Installed Memory, and so does windows, but I know there is 12gb, and so did memtest

As the computer is stable I suggest a new restore point be created, that way you at least know that if it is/was a software issue and the problem returns you can try the restore point to see if it clears it up.

 

Good news that the CPU checked out ok.

 

RE the Ram, the X58 platform MB is notorious for conflicting amounts of Ram being reported, it is not brand specific either, couple of example threads here and here

I would leave well alone and hope that everything stays good
