OK, then you very well may have corruption. Let's see if you do.

Step#1 - System Update Readiness Tool (SUR)
1. Download and run the following file.
2. When it asks you if you wish to install, please answer yes. Note: It could take 15 minutes or more to run. Please don't cancel.
3. You will get an Installation Complete screen when it's done running.
4. Please post the contents of the log from the following location. C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log

Again there were two files listed at the link and i only selecte one

Windows6.0-KB3013455-x86.msu

1.2 MB

1.2 MB

Windows6.0-KB3037639-x86.msu

1.2 MB

1.2 MB

That was the wrong link. Sorry about that. Please use the following one and yes you only have to download and install KB3013455 and don't worry about the other.

http://www.microsoft...s.aspx?id=45679

If you already started the System Update Readiness Tool, that is fine as we can at least rule out corruption. If not, go ahead and try this first. Thanks.

That looks like the same link you first gave me.

I got the same result again when I tried it.

I'm going to download and run the other program now.

That looks like the same link you first gave me.

The 1st link was for 32-bit Windows Vista which you don't have.

The 2nd link was for 64-bit Windows Vista which you do have.

They look very similar which is why I missed it the first time. When clicking the links you will see

Security Update for Windows Vista (KB3013455)

OR

Security Update for Windows Vista for x64-based Systems (KB3013455)

I'm going to download and run the other program now.

Sounds good.

There was definitely corruption. Some of it was fixed by running that tool. Now see if the update shows available to uninstall. Note: If you weren't prompted to reboot when running the System Update Readiness tool, please do before checking.

1. Click Start...Control Panel...Programs and Features.

2. Click the View installed updates link.

3. Right-click your mouse over in a blank area on the right-side of the updates (somewhere to the right of the Installed On column) and choose Group By....(None).

Group.JPG

4. Now click on the Installed On column to sort the newest ones to the top. See if you can see the update now. If so, click Uninstall and reboot when prompted.

It did finally show up and I did an uninstall.

Re-booted

Looks like the font issue is fixed in the software.

My desktop is all re-arragend with larger icons.

My webpages are off to the right... Just like this page I'm on now everything is run off to the right of the screen.

I went to display settings and its on 1024 x 768 when I change it to 1280x1024 then everything looks to little.

I feel I'm doing something wrong or overlooking something.

Thanks

Good! Progress! There are still 8 files that are corrupt that need fixed which we'll do but I was hoping it was enough to uninstall the update.

Before we do, let's try getting your screen fixed.

If you right-click on your desktop and choose Personalize there should be a "Adjust font size (DPI)" setting on the left side of the screen under tasks. Can you click that and let me know what it's set to.

It would be nice to see a screen shot of what your screen looks like. We may have to remove and re-install the video driver but I'd like to see first. I know you said you weren't sure how to do it so try this.

1. Click your start button and type snip. You should see the search results bring up Snipping Tool.

2. Click on Snipping Tool. You may get a message asking if you want to add it to your QuickLaunch bar. If you think it will be useful then answer Yes otherwise No.

3. You are now in screen capture mode. Point your mouse to the upper left corner of the screen and hold the mouse button down. Drag to the lower right of your screen and let go of the mouse. You are basically drawing a rectangle around what you would like to screen capture. Now you can choose the File menu....Save As and save it to your desktop. Then you can attach it to your post. Instructions for that are here. Let me know if you have trouble.

I'll be stepping out for awhile to get the kids. I just noticed the link that shows how to attach a file is old and doesn't accurately reflect the steps. So after you have saved your file to the desktop you can click the "More Reply Options" button which is next to the Post button. When you do this you will have a Browse button at the bottom where you can attach the file. That will be sufficient.

Thanks.

Im on another computer in my office now to send this message.

I clicked start

I typed snip

It asked about the quicklaunch

I said no

Then something happened.

Machine rebooted

Got what looks like the blue screen of death but then it went on passed it.

Then I got Startup Repair

Then it asked if I wanted to restore the computer using system restore...  Restore or Cancel..... I selected cancel.

The computer is still over there like its doing a startup repair or something.

Ok, I'm back on the computer we have been working on.

After it finally rebooted this time.

I got a pop up window that said

Windows has recovered from unexpected Shutdown

Check for Solutions or Cancel

I selected Cancel

My desktop is back to normal

The website looks fine.

Beats me.

I was going to check out the snipping tool since I've never used it.

I went to Start and typed Snip

Clicked on the tool

It asked about adding it to the launch...... I didn't

Then I got an error message

The snipping tool is not working on your computer right now. Restart your computer and try again. if problem persist contact syst admin.

I just closed to window.

Glad your screen is back. I think your other issues may be do to the corruption. We still have some work to do. Please do the following.

Step#1 - Repair Some Corruption in Windows Servicing

1. Please create a new folder named packages within C:\Windows\CheckSUR

2. Download this file and save it into the packages folder.

3. Re-Run the System Update Readiness Tool. The file should still be on your desktop named Windows6.0-KB947821-v35-x64.msu

4. You will get an Installation Complete screen when it's done running.
5. Please post the contents of the log from the following location. C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log

Step#2 - System File Checker
 1. Click your Start Orb in the lower left of your computer and type cmd in the search box.
2. Once the cmd program is found, right-click on it with your mouse and select Run as administrator as shown below.
ElevateCommandPrompt.JPG

3. Answer Yes when asked to allow.
4. You should now have a black window open that you can type in to.
5. Type sfc /scannow and hit enter to start the scan. Please notice the space between sfc and /scannow.
6. Once the scan finishes please copy and paste the following into the command prompt window and hit enter.
    findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt
7. This will place a new file on your desktop named sfcdetails.txt. Please copy/past the contents of this file into your next post.
