Hello,

I'm new here and I have a problem that I can't seen to find the solution for ..
I was working on my laptop (windows xp) and out of nowhere it shut down and now every time I turn it on I get the a blue screen that says:

"a problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer ....."

so I tried safe mode and every time it hangs on aswrvrt.sys!! >> 1st picture attached//

I googled the problem and found out about OTLPENet.exe and I tried that .. three times with two different CDs and a DVD and every time the program burns the files successfully but when I insert the CD in my laptop and switch the settings to run from a CD/DVD I get a black screen with a blinking cursors in the top left corner for a couple of seconds then it shows a black screen that says:

"we apologize for the inconvenience. but windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this ... " >> 2nd picture attached//

and no matter what option I choose, my laptop won't work!!

Can you please help?? I have a couple of files that I was working on before this suddenly happened and I didn't get the chance to back up my files!

Hi Angel.

As a first step,  can you try safe mode with command prompt and see if it will boot into that.

Hi,

ok, do you have a windows XP disk that you can boot from?

If so we can try and manually repair using that.

I have the reinstallation cd that came with the laptop, would that work?
If not is there any way to make a recovery or repair cd?

If it is a windows XP disc and not an image as such then yes.

Try booting it and when asked if you want the recovery console, press "R"

All going well you should come to a black screen with white writing.

If you can get to that, let me know and we can continue.
