Update: the recovery media from HP have arrived, but when I boot from the first disc as instructed, it informs me that my system is not compatible with this particular disc and shuts down. This despite the fact that HP confirmed my serial number and model number as part of the order. I guess tomorrow I'll be taking this up with them.
