Gigabyte 970A UD3P V2

AM3+ FX 8350 8core black CPU

RaidMax 530W PSU

GTX 750 TI ASUS

Fury HyperX 1.5v GDDR3 8gig ram 1stick

I have HDD but I don't think they would factor into a no post

 

Goofing all the way here havnt done a system since 9800 nvida cards.

To start I put every thing together in the case (note the ATX 12 8 pin was not connected) It would power up and stay on fans stayed on etc.

No video start so nectiling that the note above I started first by pulling ram out etc to see if would get video. Every thing would still turn on and stay on fine but nothing else. Then next I removed the cmos bat still noteing the ATX 12 was not in. Put the battery back in now it only powers on for a sec then turns off it does this no matter what I do I did finally plug in the ATX 12 8pin but still counties to power for no more then a sec even removed from case and sat it on top of mobo box to rule out shorting.

 

I don't have extra parts to rule things out. As any one done or seen this this same problem? Maybe the cmos battery went bad after removed it? Did I happen to ruin any thing with the ATX 12 not in and started removing things? really hoping not this I hate to come to realize I ruined my own computer.

Your computer will not run without the 12v cable being connected as this power the CPU.   You will not have caused any damage without having it connected.

When working on the computer make sure the PSU is switched of and take anti static mesres by occasanally toughing a bare metal part of the case.

 

Please remove the video card.   Disconnect all wiring, then remove the MB from the case and again sit it on the MB box.

Check the CMOS battery is not loose and is fitted with the + sign facing up.

Check the CPU fan is connected to the CPU fan #1 header on the MB.

Remove the RAM.

connect only the 24v  and 12v main cables. nothing else.

Switch on the PSU, you should see a LED light on the MB.

If available, press the MB PWR button, otherwise with a small screwdriver, short out the 2 pins for power on, located on the MB front panel header.

The PSU and CPU fans should start and keep going.   If no, post back.  possible faulty PSU, damaged CPU socket.

 

If yes.

Switch off.

Install the RAM in the slot closest to the CPU.

Install the video card and connect to the monitor then switch it on, you should get "No signal" displayed.

Switch on the PSU, power on again.

You should get a "no boot device" displayed on the monitor. If no,   

Switch off, move the RAM to the second DIMM slot, try again. 

 

If yes.

Switch off, disconnect all wiring, remove the video card.

Check that the stardofgfs on the MB mounting plate match exactly the pattern and number of screw holes in the MB.

 

Carry on with the build.

On your first Boot, enter and configure setting in the BIOS. Date/time, SATA controller set AHCI, leave the RAM at the default setting, (set XMP after the OS is installed) at the exit screen, remember to save setting, and exit.

I might add I looked all over the board it doesn't seem to have a single LED on it to signify it is getting power, Thou if the videocard is in without power to it the light on the card is red with power to it goes green. Its weird to see a mobo with out any LEDs on it the ethernet port has some thou. Any way I am going to bestbuy today to get new PSU and a cmos battery. I will try changing bat first then PSU if no go. Talking with friends of mine they all tell me my PSU is not supplying enough power. I really hope thats the case wouldn't be cheapest fix but definitely quick and reassuring to see this running.

Looking at the MB manual, your right, there are no LEDs at all.

The Redmax is rather poor, but as your GPU only draws power from the slot, it should power the computer.   Getting a better quality one though is a very good idea.
