Okay Im wanting to upgrade my cpu I learned that when you upgrade your cpu you tend to need to upgrade your motherboard as well I have an ASUS m6 motherboard and the only thing available would be a AMD phenom x4 that would have to be used. I have a motherboard and cpu picked out, I need to know for sure that it will work with all my existing parts and I wont run into having to repurchase windows parts not fitting etc.
This is what I want to upgrade too Cpu/motherboard wise. An intel i5 quad 3.5ghz and a standard MSI motherboard. I heard for gaming a quad is all you need and going for a 6 core isnt really worth it. I heard Intel out performs AMD. I mostly use my computer for games like WoW etc but i do play games off steam every now and then.
Wouldthis be my best option for an Upgrade? the i5 quad or are there cheaper or better options etc? And what do i need to look at when im replacing my motherboard/cpu is it just making sure that the motherboard has a PCI slot for my gtx 550 ti my psu is 750 so that should be more than enough.
Please help me guys! My budgets around 200$ to 300$.
