Is msn messenger safe back in the day? Was there a chance for people on your friends list to look at all your files or search your computer if you didn't send stuff to their shared folder? Any insight would be great?

jbrandes,

There were two known exploits that allowed code to be executed remotely, potentially allowing such malicious behavior; both exploits were patched in 2005.

The first patch was Feb 8th, the second patch was April 12th.

If you downloaded the program after April 12th 2005, they were patched.

If you had it before that, you would have needed to update your version of Messenger to apply those fixes.
