Not sure if this is software, hardware, or malware...

windows digital signature

My computer's  dvd/cd-rom device has an error. 

 

Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. (Code 52)

 

I tried updating the driver, uninstalling it, letting it reinstall on its own, to no avail...

 

This may or may not have anything to do with my trying to update iTunes (which was a 14 hour pain in the rear)...

 

If someone could help problem solve this for me I would greatly appreciate it.
