I have an old HP Laserjet 4050 that I am trying to use with my fairly new Dell Optiplex 9020. I have adapted the 25 pin printer cable down to a 9 pin to connect to the computer, but I can't find the printer to set it up. Can someone please help?

 9-pin is usually a serial port, and 25-pin is usually parallel ... two entirely different animals.
