Like I say you can reinstall it later if you wish, I  am only suggesting ways to get you all patched up and running as fast as possible. You may indeed like 360, I prefer it over Avast, I used to run Avast for years until I found 360. I use it on one machine and secureaplus on my laptop. :)

You should notice a great deal of increase in speed when all is said and done, you may have noticed a change already.

Someone here recommended Avast. I forget who.

I will check it out

There is a LOT of Avast here. :upset: It's still a goin'! :bashhead:  It said when I started that it may take a while. That weren't kiddin' it's not even

half way done. 1375 items - !!! That is why when I start up AVAST is the last one to finish - like molasses.

Do you have a link for 360?

I found one on Softonic.

I provided instructions here.

Edit: Like I say Avast is not bad, just 360 is lighter on older xp machines, and SecureAplus is even lighter it only uses one percent cpu. You are going to be using 360 to get patched up and disable some more items at system level.

Glad all is well, lets turn things up a notch. Once you complete these steps then you should basically have a new computer. :)

Turn off indexing on your machine. http://lifehacker.co...d-up-windows-xp

Replace the search with this free program which is faster and more accurate. http://www.voidtools.com/downloads/

Install and run this defrag, then use it daily,  http://www.toolwiz.c...z-smart-defrag/

Use these on demand scanners to help you stay malware free, no need to post any log in this forum, these are for your personal use, run these when time permits, a full scan is key.

  • Download drivecleanup.zip to your desktop.
  • Unzip it on your desktop.
  • CLICK HERE to see if you are running 32-bit or 64-bit for Windows.
  • Once the determination has been made,  open either the 32-bit or 64-bit folder.
  • Remove all usb plugs from your machine, except your printer, mouse and keyboard.
  • Right Click the .exe  inside of the folder, then run as administrator.
  • A command prompt window will open,  telling you what has been removed upon completion.

Speedy Fox: To optimize your browsers and Skype.

Download SpeedyFox Save it to your desktop, right click and run as administrator. Click the optimize button.

Also run a chkdsk /r on your computer, instructions are the same except you will not need to open elevated command since it is xp.

Do not forget to clean the machine manually of all dust, if you need help doing so then let me know. :)

Almost forgot you should have the following, to avoid those crappy ads........ :)

Adblock https://adblockplus.org/

Adguard for Firefox https://addons.mozil...uard-adblocker/

Safe to install both, one compliments the other.

You are most welcome, sorry for the somewhat unorganized manner of my posting...........  Hope you enjoy your faster running machine.

I do have a question for you, how much increase in speed do you notice? From 1 to 10 can you number it for me?

Ok. Just checked back and ran the two latest two above.

I went from a 113 to 41 to 48 and now to 41 once more - which reads "pretty fast."

So on a 1 to 10 I would say it was at 3 and now it's at 7+.

This old fossil is noticebly faster. Loading pages is much faster.

You have helped me SO much.

Thank You!
