Could you now go to MBAM please and copy the scan log and then post it here

To access logs from Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 2.0:

1.Open Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 2.0
2.Click History > Application Logs
3.Double-click the log you would like to open
◦Scan Logs record detections from manual scans, including threats detected and the actions taken against them

To save a Scan Log:

1.Open the log file you would like to save
2.Click Export
3.Choose to export to a .txt file
4.Choose a folder to save the log file in, then click Save

So the system is nearly back to normal now ?

Hi, here is the MBAM log from yesterday and today...I never saw this laptop before I was given it the other day to look at so I don't know what "normal" is for it but it seems to be doing pretty well...much much better than it was before you started fixing it.

Anything I can try to exercise on it to see if there are any gremlins hiding out that waiting to be discovered?

MBAM log from yesterday

If you could now use all browsers to confirm that they are behaving, then run a few of the programmes on the computer to check that there are no gremlins around.

Then once you are happy we need to secure the system and get an antivirus installed, as at the moment she is just using windows defender which is anti-malware :)

I can give you a checklist on the set up I use if you wish :)

Hi I reinstalled Chrome browser, went to youtube, played a bunch of videos on both IE and Chrome and it seems to be responding OK...he doesn't have much for programs on here but MSFT word opens OK so I think we might be good...do you want me to run one more FRST scan just to see what's left? Otherwise, lets clean this up and I can get it back to him...

Thanks for all your help!!!

Nope, you should be good now. MBAM pulled all the stuff that was outside the time window of my other tools..

If your friend wishes to set the computer up more securely here is the setup I recommended to another user (post 7 ) http://www.geekstogo...r/#entry2483466

Subject to no further problems :)

I will remove my tools now and give some recommendations, but, I would like you to run for 24 hours or so and come back if you have any problems

Now the best part of the day ----- Your log now appears clean

A good workman always cleans up after himself so..The following will implement some cleanup procedures as well as reset System Restore points:

Remove tools

Download and run Delfix

Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programmes:

CryptoPrevent install this programme to lock down and prevent crypto ransome ware

CryptoPrevent.JPG

Malwarebytes.

Update and run weekly to keep your system clean

Unchecky

Click on the link above to be taken to Unchecky.com
click the very large Download button.
click Save
Click Open folder
Right click on the Unchecky_setup and choose to Run as Administrator
Once open click the Install button.
Then click on Finish
Unchecky is now installed and will help you keep unwanted check boxes unchecked, this is a fire and forget programme ;)

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system and to keep them updated.

To learn more about how to protect yourself while on the internet read this little guide Best security practices Keep safe

Thanks, I have installed Cryptoprotect, Unchecky and Avast on his system...I've tried Avast a couple times on my own system and have ended up uninstalling it for some reason that I can't remember right now.

This wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be after seeing what a mess his PC was, thanks to you!!

I will give him a copy of your Best security practices guide.

Thanks again, since we're all good you can close this case and mark it SOLVED!!

Frank

PS...YOU GUYS ROCK!!!
