Hi,

This problem began a couple of days ago - whenever I start my PC,the audio doesn't start automatically, even though it is set to automatic in services. Also the speaker icon disappears from the taskbar.

I can go into services and start the audio, after which it works fine until my next shutdown and restart. The speaker icon remains missing, although this isn't such a problem..having to manually start the audio every time is a bit annoying, however!

Not sure if it's related or not,but my machine has also started taking longer to boot up than it used to..hanging on a black screen with just the mouse cursor visible, for quite some time before going to the logon screen.

fireberd,

:welcome:

First check that icon not turned off in notification area. Check for it through this process :

  1. Right-click an empty area on the taskbar, and then click Properties.

  2. Under Notification area, click Customize.

  3. Click Turn system icons on or off.

  4. For each system icon, click On in the list to show the icon in the notification area, or click Off to completely remove the icon from the notification area.

  5. Click OK, and then click OK again.

Also try rebuild icon cache  http://www.sevenforu...he-rebuild.html

Are you saying in services Windows audio service is disabled not set to Automatic or just not running ?

As far as other issues, try running system file checker. At start button look for command prompt, rigt click it and select "Run as Administrator"

Copy and paste this let it run               sfc /scannow

Anything added recently before this happened, hardware or software, updated driver software ?

The audio service, and all its dependencies are set to automatic, but it just won't start when the PC boots up - I have to go into services and start both the audio service and audio endpoint builder.Audio then works fine. The sound icon on the taskbar cannot be reinstated by selecting 'show icon and notifications' on the taskbar customize window,as it tells me the audio service is not running..even though I've started it and I have sound!

Check also in services if these 2 are starting as other 2 Audio services depend on these services to run.

Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
Multimedia Class Scheduler

Follow procedure here to do a clean boot to see if there is a conflict with another software or driver. If Icon appears and audio service works then you know there is one.

Also can try how i listed to do a System file checker in my first post.

All audio dependencies seem to be ok - it's just audio service and audio endpoint builder. If I try and start the endpoint builder,I get the message 'error 1059 circular service dependency was specified'.If I then start the audio service, the endpoint builder is then also started. There is still no speaker icon.I'm also now wondering if this in some way malware related,as my comp is taking much longer to boot up than it used to,and I cannot update my Avira AV.

Try the system file checker and see if anything shows as being fixed. Try Malwarebytes free editions, google it, run that. Slow or hanging boot up can be due to many things besides virus. Hardware, something that loading on startup, software. Check your startup items. If feel so make a post in malware section here and team will look over your PC. Could even be an issue with your Anti-Virus, even on boot.

Any restore points made before this issue arised ? Good to make system restore points as can get you back to the best known configuration before the event.

See some methods here http://answers.micro...dc-208701824efd

I also showed you to use system file checker, as this maybe the result of corrupt system files.

Hi again,

Sorry for the delay - I opened a thread in the malware section which didn't result in any infections being found, and I was advised that it is a tech issue with my machine.

One of the tools I was asked to run was FRST64,which generated a txt log containing the following lines:

Error: (04/02/2015 03:27:10 PM) (Source: Service Control Manager) (EventID: 7017) (User: )
Description: Detected circular dependencies demand starting Windows Audio Endpoint Builder.
Check the service dependency tree.

Error: (04/02/2015 03:27:10 PM) (Source: Service Control Manager) (EventID: 7019) (User: )
Description: The Windows Audio Endpoint Builder service depends on a service in a group which
starts later. Change the order in the service dependency tree to ensure that
all services required to start this service are starting before this service is started.

How can this be fixed?

Again been repeating one thing i have never received a response you tried this.

System file Checker  administrator command prompt copy and paste

sfc /scannow

Your last alternative maybe to reinstall Windows if sfc does not find or fix issues. Need to at least try this first.

This CBS log is not for this that i know of. System file checker when done will tell you if there was any integrity violations in system files and if so was able to repair them or not. If not have to reinstall Windows again.

No need for a log for SFC .
