OK, now they are both installed!   It is odd that when I did the Dell system analysis, it didn't tell me to update those drivers. I never trust those automated tools  I guess now we hope... Go to the full post »

Here is the MiniToolbox result...  By the way it had a "last 10 event error" choice, not last 10 event viewer...probably what you meant, I chose that.

PS  By the way...Avast didn't want me to install MiniToolBox...it blocked it.  I temporarily turned off Avast to download it though.

It happens sometimes because the AV manufactures wrongly start detecting everything produced using a scripting language called Autoit. MiniToolBox is totally safe, you did it right.

Something strange is going on with your machine because I just tested the installation of those packages and after that doing a search for msvcp80.dll show the missing file installed.

Let's run a disk check..

» Check the Disk for Errors

  • open the Command Prompt as Administrator (Tutorial)
  • type the commands:
    sc delete internethelper_antiphishing
    chkdsk /f /x C:
Note: When chkdsk ask if you want to checked the volume next time the system restarts answer Yes
  • restart the computer.

Next,

  • download ListChkdskResult
  • execute the file and accept all the windows prompts to authorize the program to run
  • Notepad will open with a report showing the chkdsk result
  • copy & paste the log to your reply

I dont know if this is related, but a Windows message showed up and said they saw an error with Nvidia and this was the fix.

http://www.materra.be/nvidiaerror.pdf

Did windows updated the driver? I suspect your machine have two graphic cards one NVidia and a Intel 4000 Graphics if its the case the dual graphics configuration is very tricky and you can only update using the drivers provided by Dell. I know this sucks because I have the same problem with my Dell, and they don't provide very update drivers.

Chkdsk report looks ok. The sc delete command returned deleted?

Time for some cleanup using TFC then try to download and reinstall the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86) and the update again, make sure you save the update using a different name because they have the same name but the files are different.

Download TFC by OldTimer to your Desktop

  • Please double-click TFC.exe to run it. (Note: If you are running on Vista or above accept the Security Warning).
  • It will close all programs when run, so make sure you have saved all your work before you begin.
  • Click the Start button to begin the process. Depending on how often you clean temp files, execution time should be anywhere from a few seconds to a minute or two.  Let it run uninterrupted to completion.
  • Once it's finished it should reboot your machine. If it does not, please manually reboot the machine yourself to ensure a complete clean.

I didn't even try to update the Nvidia driver, I didnt want to complicate things.  If it makes sense, let me know and I will try it.

Yes, the SC said successfully deleted

I will run TFC now.....

OK, I was confused because of this  "make sure you save the update using a different name because they have the same name but the files are different"

Do you mean use a different name when I download it to Desktop?

Yes, both pages will give you a file called vcredist_x86.EXE but they are different and need to be installed in order, save the second download as vcredist_x86 update.EXE for example.

The second one did not give me the chance to download it with a different name, so I downloaded it to a different file and then renamed it.

I installed both in order.

[bleep], same problem!

Should I restart?
