I have an older PC--Gateway that I did a clean install of Windows 8.1 in November 2014.  I used the Windows updater and it couldn't be upgraded but the PC had the minimums required to operate they OS so I did it as a clean install.  Last week I received a message about needing updated.  It looked like the messages I get in Win 7 when I need updates so I didn't question it, allowed the update and then the next day there was a message that a driver needed updated and also my web cam was incompatible.  I tried to access the message and the link to the list of drivers but it wasn't working.  Next I came back to a screen asking me to set my keyboard orientation...options to fix.  I followed the instructions but it said my multi media was incompatible.  I have been trying to trouble shoot this as Win 8.1 problem and in trying to reboot check bios etc have now gotten to the point where the computer will not even start a boot up...Does this sound like it was malware?

 

I have a hard time imagining that suddenly after 4 mos ALL my hardware and software are incompatible with Win 8.1 but that is what the person assisting me in the OS topic is telling me. 

 

I would follow the Malware guide but am already to the point that I can't even get my pc to boot up.  CD Rom clearly not working so I'll need some sort of work around on a USB to try and access my computer.

 

If you think this is Malware--please check my other topic in Win 8 op system and then tell me what additional info you need to assist me.
