I have Ubuntu OS on a DVD but can't access the Boot Sequence on my ASUS with OS Windows 7. Must be simple, right?

you found the solution yet? if not then they are 2 ways to change the boot order of devices so the cd/dvd drive is first to boot (it is usually first by default anyway.)

 

you can either go into the uefi/bios and set it there or there is usually a key you can tap before the installed os boots that will allow you to set the boot device for that one start up.

 

the keys you usually need to tap after powering on the laptop are F2 to get into bios/uefi  or F12 for the single boot device options, but could be any F key, Esc or even the Delete key, so you may need to experiment if it doesn't actually say on the startup screen before windows starts booting.

Thanks Terry. Yes, I tap F2 on the ASUS to enter bios and I've click on everything related to the disc drive but when I boot up, I get Windows. I checked the DVD and it seems like a successful burn. I'm baffled because to change the bios on my Acer (with Win7), is so easy!

 

Any other ideas for me?

assuming the cd/dvd and drive are good then only thing i can think of that can cause a cd/dvd not to boot when set as first boot device is something called secure boot in the uefi/bios and legacy/csm boot or maybe even fast boot.

 

then again i've never run across a windows 7 pc where they were set incorrectly in the bios/uefi, far as i'm aware only from windows 8 and onwards would those settings be set so they may cause a problem booting other media.

most newer versions of linux are signed and are able to work with secure boot enabled anyway now, so even if you were running a win 8 laptop i don't think secure boot would be applicable.

you 100% sure you have cd/dvd not only enabled in bios/uefi but also set as 1st boot device and the hard drive is not first boot device thus skipping the search of cd/dvd drive for bootable media and just going straight to the installed os?

 

if so then i'd be thinking it is a bad burn or cd/dvd drive is worn and not able to read the dvd when other pc's can boot it, because nothing else is really applicable when running os older than win 8.

 

for best results when using a burned dvd always choose the slowest burn speed when creating it, 4x or the slowest in the burners options.

i don't know why but i've found burned cd/dvd's can be very inconsistent on whether they will boot or not depending on pc and it's drive.

for example one make of dvd-r will boot in one machine and not another (even if this was the machine that burned the disk.) yet if i change the brand of dvd-r then it will boot in both pc's.
